John Miller

Obituary of John P. Miller

John Patrick Miller passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at the age of 59.

John was born to Larry and Pat Miller in La Junta, CO on June 11, 1960.  John attended school in Swink, CO where he was active in sports but especially enjoyed playing the trumpet in the Swink High School Marching Band.  On April 25, 1982, John married his high school sweetheart Cheri (Frazier) Miller and had two children.  In 1985, John and Cheri moved to Calhan, CO with Larry and Pat to start their venture with Calhan Auction Market.

John started in the cattle business by driving trucks for his Dad and running cattle throughout the surrounding area.  He was a self-taught auctioneer and had been the lead auctioneer at Calhan Auction Market for more than 25 years.  John spent many years attending local sporting events and 4-H activities.  After the kids grew up, he enjoyed hosting ranch rodeos and tending to the parking lot at the Sale Barn.  When John was not busy with his cows, he would go fishing, gambling, talk about his grandsons, or spend time with his wiener dog.

In 2010, John was lucky enough to receive a liver transplant at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO.  This gave him a second chance on life.  John and his family are extremely grateful for the extra 9 years they had together.

John is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.  He is survived by his wife Cheri, his daughter Jody Mashinter (Ryan), his son Christopher Miller (Lauren), grandchildren Robert Miller and Nolan Mashinter, sisters Kelley Garrett (Larry), Kim Goodhue, sisters-in-law Conni Salzbrenner (Steve) and Christi Gleason (Mike), six nieces, one nephew, and in-laws Clyde and Judy Frazier.
