Obituary of Bernard G Hollowell
Bernard Gaines Hollowell, a long time farmer and rancher of Hugo, CO passed away peacefully on March 23, 2019. He was 92 years old.
Bernard was born in a sod house in Keysor, CO on December 30, 1926 to John and Zephia Hollowell. He was one of 7 children. He attended school through the 8th grade at Mountain View Country School 2miles from his home before tending to the farm full time to help his family.
He was drafted into the Army in 1950 and served with the 200th Engineer Combat Company in Ft. Richardson, Alaska from 1950-1952. He quickly moved up the ranks and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant to return to the passion of his life, farming and ranching.
Bernard married Patsy J. Webb on May 18, 1957. They were blessed with three children, James, Deborah and Cynthia.
The farm was a place of peace and contentment for Bernard…he loved being a farmer. He felt one had to have cattle as well to help off set the bad years. He had the respect of the young and old alike from an early age. There was little he couldn’t do, whether remodeling a house or rebuilding equipment. Working along side his brothers, Johnnie and Gorden, they created the successful Hollowell Brothers Corporation. His legacy and love for the farm lives on through his family.
While he worked hard, there was another side of Bernard. Some were fortunate to experience his playful wit and his skill around a pool table. His faith was strong and true and the love for his family was relentless.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy, son James, parents John and Zephia, brother Richard, and son-in-law Mike Fenoglio and brothers-in-law; Pat Jolly and John Bennett.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Deborah Fenoglio of Denver, Cynthia (Lance) Valdez of Wellington, two grand children, Zachary (Alyssa) Fenoglio of Denver, Melissa Fenoglio of Ft. Collins, faithful companion Rosann Safranek of Limon, and siblings Josephine, Evelyn, Johnnie (Kay), Barbara, Gorden (Nancy) and many nieces and nephews.
