Carlos Andersen

Obituary of Carlos George Andersen

Carlos George Andersen was born February 10, 1930 at the Andersen Homestead north of Genoa to George and Margaret Andersen.  He joined his sister, Cleo, and brother, Ted.  He passed away on January 9, 2019 at Collier Lutheran Hospice near his home in Arvada, Colorado.

Carlos attended several different schools as his family moved with the Peterson family business including Union north of Genoa, Denver, Chicago and graduating from Dixon where he loved playing basketball.  As a young man he would spend many summers working on the Andersen homestead north of Genoa for his Uncle Iler.  In 1949 Carlos lost his brother Ted due to a motorcycle accident and it was at this time the family moved back to Genoa.

While in Dixon he met the love of his life Jeanne Weitzel. They were married in Hugo, Colorado in 1950 and made their home on the George Andersen farm north of Genoa. To this union four sons were born:  Kevin, Keith, Kirk, and Kelly.  Later four daughters in laws, Diane, Annette, Paula, and Anna joined the family. Eventually eleven grandchildren were added:  Alicia, Derek, Angela, Ashley, Karli, Alex, Alana, Jon, Trevor, Jacob, and Eric.

One of the highlights of Carlos’s life was working alongside his father and later with his sons on the family farm. He also enjoyed construction and family shop projects.   He loved getting together with family, friends, and neighbors whether it was the annual antelope hunt, fishing, camping or just a visit. He had a life-long love of cars, especially enjoying his collection of Thunderbirds and never could part with any of them.

In May of 1999 his beloved wife Jeanne passed away leaving a huge void in his life.  He continued to live on the farm and took time to work and play with his sons and family whenever he could.   During this time Carlos become an avid fisherman and fly tier.

In November 2002, Carlos rekindled a childhood friendship and married Alberta Ludwig starting a new chapter in his life.  He sold his farm and moved to live with Alberta in Arvada, Colorado.  They enjoyed traveling, gardening, visiting, and reminiscing.  His farming instinct was still strong and he used every available space to grow tomatoes and strawberries, sharing his produce with neighbors and family.

Carlos is survived by his wife, 3 sons, 4 daughter-in-law’s, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren with two on the way, 2 step sons, 1 step daughter, 4 step grandchildren, 7 step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, father, George, mother, Margaret, brother, Ted, sister, Cleo, and son Kevin.

Carlos will be remembered for his dedication and love for his family.  A funeral will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Love Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Genoa Community Cemetery.
