On Tuesday December 18, 2018, Helen “Lucille” Stanko was taken to heaven, she was 86.

Lucille was born as Helen Lucille Young on June 27, 1932 to Harold and Myrtle (Moody) Young. She grew up south of Simla, CO near Alta Vista, CO with her 3 siblings. After graduating from Simla High School, she moved down road 7 miles to Matheson, CO where she married Edward Stanko on April 1, 1951 and had 3 children, Eddie, Leonard and a daughter that died at birth. Lucille continued to live in Matheson being close to her family until she grew tired of commuting during Colorado blizzards so she moved to Limon to continue working at Prairie View Care Center as a CNA, Bath Aide and Laundry Supervisor, with many 2nd jobs.

Lucille loved watching old western movies, sitting on her front porch watching the birds, growing plants, her dog Mickey and cat Mitzi. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family  at the kitchen table after preparing them there many special request of fried chicken, porcupine balls, noodles and milk, pancakes, no bake cookies or her special peanut butter fudge at Christmas. She lived a simple, but rich life, always taking care of others and spoiling her great-grandchildren.

She taught us how to be strong, work hard, never give up and love unconditionally. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and warm heart.
