Obituary of Kathy Grokett
Kathy Ann Grokett was born to Virginia and Hugh Green on February 13, 1950 in Hugo, Colorado. The family lived down at Boyero on the Schafer ranch where Kathy helped her dad with the horses. Kathy had a great passion for horses. She grew up riding and ranching with the Schafer boys. Kathy showed several horses and won Champion and Reservice Champion with her horses at the Lincoln County Fair. She was also the Lincoln County Fair Queen and helped with the Queen program for many years.
The family moved to Limon and Kathy graduated from Limon High School. She soon met Don Grokett and was married on July 21, 1968. Don and Kathy kept busy with their trucking business, hauling hay, cattle, and grain. Then in March of 1975 Gary was born and four years later Terry was born in February. Kathy ran the Limon Sale Barn Café for many years. She loved cooking and visiting with all the ranchers that passed through.
After the Sale Barn closed, Kathy managed a chiropractor office and then the eye doctor office in Limon until she retired a few years ago. All people loved to visit with Kathy and would stop in the office to swap stories.
The greatest joy in Kathy’s life was her grandkids, Taci, Riatta, Evan and Thomas. She loved to cook their favorite foods for them, take care of them, and go watch them play sports or cheer for them at the gymkhanas.
Kathy was a beloved wife, mother, and Grandmother and will be sorely missed by many. But we know she is riding in the greener pastures now.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Virginia (Dillon) Green, and Hugh Green. She is survived by her husband Don Grokett, her sons, Gary (Heather) Grokett and Terry Grokett, and Taci, Riatta, Evan and Thomas.
