Betty Hamilton

Obituary of Betty D. Hamilton

Betty D. (Dunlap) Hamilton, 92, passed away on October 8, 2018 at Good Samaritan in Simla, CO.

Betty was born on October 6, 1926 in New Raymer, CO to Glen and Blanche (Ducker) Dunlap, one of six children born to this union. Her dad worked in construction and, needing to follow the work, was frequently absent from home.  Her mom kept the home fires going and took care of the children.  Betty graduated from Englewood High School in Englewood, CO and worked at various office jobs.

Betty married Eldon (Jack) Hamilton on January 27, 1947 in Goodland, KS.  Two children, Clay and Roxana (Roxie), were born to this union.  Their first home was on a farm near Masters, CO where they farmed with Jack’s brother Johnny and his Dad.  They eventually moved to Wiggins, CO and Jack bought a pool hall.  After selling it in 1949, the family moved to the Eagles Nest Ranch near Masters, where Jack worked for Andy Orr until 1953.  They then moved to Kirk, CO and Jack went to work farming for Walter Stalker.  In 1960, Jack and Betty moved to Joes, CO and, after leasing a farm for one year, they decided to purchase it.  In 1978 they sold the farm and moved to Pine, CO in January 1979.  Realizing that they had moved away from their children and grandchildren, Jack and Betty moved to Hugo, CO in 1987 and stayed in their home until May 2014, when they moved into Lincoln Park Assisted Living.  In July 2018 Betty moved to Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Simla, CO.

Betty loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She devoted her life to helping on the family farm and raising her children.  Betty was an avid gardener, always raising a bountiful crop and canning and/or freezing her produce.  She also loved her flowers and tended them carefully.  Betty spent many hours sewing clothes for herself and her children, making quilts and later turning to knitting.  She also helped Jack with painting many of his wood projects.  Together, they made a beautiful nativity scene.  Betty was an avid Denver Broncos fan.  She enjoyed playing cards, working crossword and word search puzzles, reading, watching her grandchildren participate in their activities and playing with her great grandchildren.  All of them were the pride of her life.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, and her brothers Bill, Neil, Norman and Roger Dunlap.

Betty is survived by her son Clay (Sue) Hamilton of Kirk, CO, their children Amy (Heith) Rutledge and Jeremiah and Brice, Sarah Hamilton (Ryan Mattson) and Eian, Trinity, Trayston, Bravin and Asa, Matthew (Ronnyah) Hamilton and Alexandra, Samantha and Zachary; daughter Roxie (Mike) Devers of Hugo, CO, their children Todd Devers (Amy Juliana) and Marcy (Kurt) Brossman and Makayla, Kenzie and Kooper.  She is also survived by her sister Glenda Peikert of Pueblo, brother-in-law Donald (Teresa) Hamilton of Grand Junction, sisters-in-law June Walker of Greeley, Janie Dunlap of Wheatridge, Marilyn Dunlap of Colorado Springs, Ardie Dunlap of Golden, Verna Dunlap of Englewood and many nieces and nephews.
