Obituary of Darreld R. Carneal
Darreld R. Carneal was born south of Matheson, Colorado on October 21, 1936. He died peacefully on June 2, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years and care giver, Maryetta; 6 children, Roger (Gail), Terry (Shirl), Randy (Debbie), Traci, Dallas, and Craig (Debbie); 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends. He is also survived by his two sisters, Arlene Felch and Betty Stockman, and one brother, Larry Carneal. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert Carneal.
He was born to Russell C. Carneal and Gladys M. (Ashcraft) Carneal. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1954. After graduating, he worked as a truck driver for Economy Feed Mill, Newton Lumber, and Weicker Freight. He joined the Colorado National Guard in 1954 and served our country for 9 years. In 1961, he was called into active duty and returned home and back to civilian life in 1962. In March of 1956, he married Janet Allison and to this union they had two boys and one girl (Randy, Craig, and Traci). This marriage ended in divorce. He later met and married Maryetta Loutzenhiser and in December of 1974 they tied the knot. This marriage added three wonderful sons, Roger, Terry, and Dallas Huscher. The families bonded immediately and become one family without distinction between step children and birth children. They devoted their lives to the blended family.
In December of 1956, he started to work for the City of Colorado Springs, Public Utilities, Electric Division, until retiring in September of 1991, with 35 years of service. While at CSU, he led the crew that installed the electricity from the bottom of the mountain to the Summit of Pikes Peak. He enjoyed retirement to the fullest until his health left him homebound. Sightseeing was one of his favorite activities and they visited each of the 50 states with their travelling companions, Frank and Myrna Ulibarri. As many of you can attest, fishing was a favorite also, he could spin a story on the fish that got away.
It was rare that he ever missed attending, supporting, or enjoying family activities and celebrations even through sicknesses and sorrow. Activities included all sports, 4-H and County Fair Exhibits, and family reunions of the Carneals, Huschers, Ashcrafts, and Loutzenhisers.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord as a young boy and was baptized.
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believed in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 Thessalonians 4:13 – My friends, we want you to understand how it will be for those followers who have already died. Then you won’t grieve over them and be like people who don’t have any hope. (LB)
II Corinthians 5: 6-8 assures us when we, as Christian die, we go immediately to be with our Lord. Facing the unknown may cause us anxiety, and leaving loved ones hurts deeply, but if we believe in Jesus Christ, we can share Paul’s hope and confidence of eternal life with Christ.
Philippians 1:23 It is a hard choice to make. I want to die and be with Christ, because that would be much better. (LB)
He leaves a legacy of which he and his family can be so proud. He was a Christian, man of his word, honest, patient, kind, hard-working, always putting others first and very willing to share and loan all he had to make life better for others. Maryetta always said, “Darreld was a trouble shooter and under his watch things would go well and proper. If you inquired of him, he was there with wisdom, knowledge, supplies, and his time, love, and support, even sound advice – that might hurt.”
