Obituary of Laurine Ellen Moore
Shorty Moore, age 98, passed away peacefully, Monday April 16, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Home, Simla, Colorado.
Shorty was born December 2, 1919 to Charles and Johanna (Thompson) Sinison in Persia, Iowa. At six years of age her family relocated to the Simla area. She and her siblings grew up in the agricultural community.
December 1940 Shorty and Thelmer Moore married and continued to live and raise their family in the Simla area. As her children grew and went off to school she opened her heart and home to care for children of working parents, until many of them reached school age. During those years she cared for more the 50 young ones. July 1976, after her children married and moved on, she had the opportunity to join the staff in the kitchen at the Good Samaritan Home, retiring September 1992. She loved sharing her talent in the kitchen preparing good food the residents could enjoy.
Family was always a priority. As a member of the First Baptist Church she made sure a spiritual foundation was developed in the hearts of her children. She loved having the whole family together at the same time. Her artistic talent is revealed in the handmade quilts she created for each of her children and grandchildren.
Shorty is survived by her sister, Betty Jo Heaston, Pueblo, CO. Two sons: Dick (Kathy) Moore, Heyworth, IL; Charles Moore, Golden, CO. Two daughters: Sharon (Bud) Jolly, Livermore, CA; Shirley (Len) Felix, Olathe, CO; son in law Keith Dean, St Francis, KS; as well as twelve grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews.
