Obituary of Kathleen Marie Baril

Kathleen Marie Baril (Mongan) was born July 2, 1959, in Oak Lawn, Illinois to Donald and Leila Mongan (Gundberg).  On April 5, 2018, after 58 years, Kathleen died peacefully at her home in Simla, Colorado.  During her childhood, the family moved from Illinois to Aurora, Colorado in 1971.  In 1977, Kathleen graduated from Aurora Central High School in Aurora, Colorado.  Later in life she met Leo Baril who she then married February 15, 1997, in Limon, Colorado.

Kathleen was better known to family and friends as Honey, Mom, Nana, Sissy, and Kathy.  She was extremely passionate about her family, community, news, and politics.  While living in Aurora, she started and ran her own independent newspaper.  In Limon, she worked enthusiastically for The Limon Leader.  In Hugo, along with her devoted husband Leo, they bought, renovated, and converted the old First Bank building in Hugo in an upholstery shop.  She was in charge of business administration for several other entrepreneurial endeavors with Leo.  She was a fearless advocate and activist for medical marijuana.  She tirelessly campaigned for Barack Obama and vocally served on the Simla Town Board.  She loved having family close by and held dear many sentimental reminders of family that had passed before her.

Kathleen is survived by her husband Leo Baril of Simla, Colorado; her two sons Donald Michael Mongan (James Chagnon) and Ryan Baril both of Denver, Colorado.  Her daughter Karla Baril of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and son-in-law, Josh Tunink of Simla, Colorado.  Also surviving her is her sister Michelle Mongan of San Francisco, California; four grandchildren: Alex, Leilah, Ryleigh, and Myree all of Simla, Colorado; her Aunt Dorothy Kavanagh (Mongan) of Palos Hills, Illinois as well as numerous cousins.
