Obituary of Martha Irene Wilson Hasenbalg

Martha Irene (Hasenbalg) Wilson, 93, of Simla, Colorado passed away on April 8, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Martha was born the first of eight children, on August 1, 1924 in Agate, Colorado to James and Alice Flanagan. She attended several schools including Simla High School. She      married Leroy Hasenbalg on July 1, 1942 in Mesa, Arizona while he was  stationed there in the Army. Son Terry was born in AZ.  Martha and Leroy moved back to Kuhns Crossing after Leroy’s discharge and farmed.  Nancy, Randy and Glenn were added to the family and two children died at birth- Marilyn and Jerold. The Hasenbalg home was later blessed with 2 foster children, Carmen and Jennie.

Martha worked alongside Leroy on the farm and when they purchased the Skelly Bulk plant and Main Line Cafe in Simla, she ran the cafe for twenty years. Martha spent countless hours making homemade meals, pies, and cinnamon rolls.   After they sold the Cafe, they worked together at raising a big garden, canning, etc. Leroy passed away in1994 and     Martha took Master Gardner classes to help fill the void.  She also helped at Big Sandy Schools as a reading monitor and loved the contact with the kids.

In 1999 she married Amos Wilson and extended her caring to include his kids and      grandkids.  Amos passed away in 2011.

Martha truly cared for people and helped anyone whenever she could.  It was difficult for her to become on the receiving end of the care giving.  Her family was her passion always.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Flanagan, four brothers; Jim, Ray, Joe, and Lew and her sister Margaret Antol.   She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Leroy Hasenbalg and Amos Wilson, her children Marilyn, Jerold, Terry and Randy Hasenbalg.

She is survived by her children Nancy Atwater, of Limon, Colorado, Glenn Hasenbalg of Port Orange, Florida, Jennie Hoefler (Rich), Hugo, CO, Carmen Rudder (Jay), Bennett, Colorado, and Daughter-in-law Becky Hasenbalg (Terry) Simla, CO.  Martha was also blessed with 17 grandchildren; Cindy Hasenbalg,  Kathy Hamacher, Wendy Hasenbalg, Brandy Swennes, Kristy Smith, Jerry Atwater, Jim Atwater, Keri Sturgeon, Steven     Hasenbalg, Nick Hasenbalg, Jeremy Hasenbalg, Jarrod Hasenbalg, Jessica Hasenbalg, Amy Stang, Ronnie Hoefler, Shawna Lind and Bryan Rudder, 26 great grandchildren,  7  great -great grandchildren and numerous amounts of     extended family to include her  wonderful friends.

Memorial Service to be held on April 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Matheson Community Bible Church 36882 Broadway Ave, Matheson, Colorado 80830.
