Obituary of Thelma E Geoffroy

Thelma Elzora Geoffroy was born September 30, 1936 in Buick, Colorado to Grace and Ralph Straily.  Her family moved several times throughout Eastern Colorado and Kansas due to her father’s job as railroad section foreman.  However, her grandmother had a home and grocery store in Buick, Colorado that the whole Straily family called home.  Thelma and her siblings had many fond memories of the time spent there as children.  Thelma graduated from high school at Agate, Colorado, then attended Central Business College in Denver.  Her first job was working for Continental Bread Company.

Thelma met Kenneth Dean Geoffroy and they were married on January 14, 1956.  They moved to the Geoffroy family farm south of Limon.  She remained there the rest of her life.

Thelma enjoyed her family, friends, church, and work.  She kept an immaculately clean home, gardened, canned, raised chickens, sewed, and helped with the farming.  She had been the March of Dimes Chairman with the Homemakers Club in 1964, Sunday School teacher for the Pleasant Plains Church and First Baptist Church of Limon, a member of the American Baptist Women, Pleasant Plains Church’s ladies club, Baptist Love Gift Chairman, Red Hat Society Member, and much more.  She worked at Kinkade Trucking, Wards catalog store, and Olsen’s Furniture.  At Olsen’s she had one of the first fax machines in Limon, Colorado. 

Thelma was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She is survived by husband, Kenneth Geoffroy; two children, Shirley Buzzell (Brent) and Leonard Geoffroy; two grandchildren, Rachel Stephan (Jeff) and Jacob Buzzell (Nacolle); three great grandchildren, Sydney Stephan, June Stephan, and Benjamin Buzzell; sister, Alice Hass (Dallas); brother, Floyd Straily; plus numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceeded in death by her parents, Grace and Ralph Straily; sister, Flora Straily; brother, Earl Straily, aunt, Inez Miller and numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

There will be a Memorial Service held at Limon United Methodist Church at 770 B Ave on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will be at River Bend Cemetery at a later date.
