Obituary of Mary Ann Wimmer
Longtime resident, Mary Ann Wimmer passed away on June 2, 2015 at the Kit Carson Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Colorado. She was 90 years old.
Mary Ann Luebbers was born on November 2, 1924 to John Luebers and Teresa Werner at Bushton, Kansas. She was an active member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Flagler and served several years with the Altar & Rosary Society. Both Mary Ann and Vince were devoted to the Blessed Mother and Mary Ann enjoyed saying the Holy Rosary, along with Sister Angelica.
Mary Ann married the love of her life Vincent Wimmer on June 14, 1943. Their marriage started in a little sod house near Marrenthal, Kansas. They were together for over 64 years. They were blessed with two children Lynda Jean and Darrel John.
Vince passed away in 2007. Mary Ann never did stop missing him. She was always saying how she wished he was still here, so were sure they are together now.
She loved her family especially visits from her children, grandchildren and great grands. She also enjoyed the many phone conversations with family and friends. Mary Ann was a good listener and helped solve many problems, from cooking to how to drive with these phone calls.
If anyone had a sense of humor it was Mary Ann, she always tried to find something fun in every situation.
She was nick-named Meach by her Dad and Nan by her grandchildren. She even received mail addressed just Nan. Nan was a wizard at our marble game which she taught to all of us and she also loved dominoes. She could add like a maniac card games were a must and we spent many long after noons playing cards.
Mary Ann loved to sew and created many garments for many people. But her great love was making quilts of which she cut every block by hand for well over 100 quilts. She was an avid reader; always reading at least two books at a time. Her specialty was angel food cake, from scratch, homemade noodles and of course the famous whiskey fruitcake.
Nan will be missed by oh so many, she is survived by her children; Lynda (Don) Jones of Flagler, Colorado, Darrel (Marie) Wimmer of Yuma, Colorado, eight grandchildren; Marla (Chuck) Goeckel, Daren (Michelle) Jones, Gayla Jones, Paula (Matt) Schnell, Carma (James) Earl, Trent (Minda) Jones, Stacy (Brandi) Wimmer, and Tanya (Ty) Yost.
