Obituary of Chrisitan Schlichenmayer
Christian Frederick Schlichenmayer was born on April 11, 1920 on the farm north of Yale, Colorado to John and Anna (Jacober) Schlichenmayer. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran church north of Bethune. He attended the Yale country school through the 8th grade. He worked on the home farm and helped the neighbors until he was drafted into the army.
He served in the 11th mechanized cavalry as a mechanic. He was in the 44th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron at the time of his discharge. He spent four years in the army and served in the European Theater. He took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He learned a lot of mechanical skills during his time in the army and after he was discharged he used these skills to do some work for neighbors and friends during the winter months as well as doing his own mechanical work.
Chris was married to Ruby Knodel on May 18, 1947. To this union two sons were born, Roy and Tom. Chris was a farmer and he loved to drive the tractor and combine, he loved raising cattle and really enjoyed going fishing when he could find the time.
Chris departed this life on October 21, 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna Schlichenmayer, his wife Ruby, his sister Martha Schaal, and brother-in-law Carl Schaal, his brother Albert Schlichenmayer, and sister-in-law Alice Gramm.
Chris is survived by his son Roy and wife Marilyn and granddaughters Jessy and Molly of Burlington; his son Tom of Bethune; sister-in-law Ester Schlichenmayer of Wray; sister-in-law Esther Gramm and husband Edmund of Stratton; brother-in-law Paul Knodel and wife Mildred of Lakewood, CO; sister-in-law Jeanette Amman and husband Gene of Ogden, UT; brother-in-law Melvin Gramm and wife Connie of Keenesburg; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services are Tuesday October 25, 2005 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethune, Colorado at 10:30 a.m. with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Bethune.
Memorials may be made in his name to the church and can be left at the Bank of Burlington.
