Obituary of Floriene Thompson

Floriene Daylenne Thompson, age 82, of Flagler, Colorado passed away January 12, 2006 in Flagler. Floriene was born September 18, 1923 in Amber, Oklahoma to Oscar F. and Beulah (ayers) Knight. Floriene graduated from Oklahoma City High School in 1941. Floriene met Kenneth Briggs in Oklahoma City when he was stationed at the U.S. Naval Base. On December 25, 1942, Floriene and Kenneth were united in marriage at Goodland, Kansas. On May 23, 1944 Kenneth was granted an honorable discharge from the service because of multiple sclerosis. They moved to Flagler where the farmed with Kenneth’s father. Their union was blessed with one son, Dale Ray, on May 4, 1947. Floriene gave herself untiringly to the care of Kenneth. In 1960, a new home was built in Flagler to help Floriene more adequately care for Kenneth. He passed away on July 3, 1962. On August 9, 1963, Floriene married Albert W. Thompson. They made their home in Flagler from October to April each year and from April to October in the Durango area. Albert was an avid gardner and Floriene spent many hours canning the produce. Albert passed away in 2000. In March 2004, Floriene became a resident of the Parrish Care Center in Flagler where she resided until her death. Floriene was a faithful and active member of Wellspring Baptist Church in Flagler. Floriene was preceded in by her parents, both husbands, one brother, James Knight, one sister, Mary Lou Baily and two infant twin siblings. Floriene is survived by a son Dale and wife Judy Briggs of Colorado Springs, Colorado. One grandson Jeff and his daughter Kaylynn Grace Briggs of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at the Wellspring Baptist Church in Flagler with Keith Marr, officiating. Burial will follow in the Flagler Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Flagler Ambulance Fund P.O. 101 Flagler, Colorado 80815
