Obituary of Mary Korbelik
Lifelong Kit Carson County resident Mary Isabelle Korbelik passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington. She was 84 years old.
Mary was born in Flagler, Colorado on June 30, 1921. She was the only child born to George and Grace (Quinn) Heid. She moved to Burlington as an infant. Mary attended St. Charles Academy in Stratton and went to high school in Burlington, where she graduated with the class of 1939. She was well known through the area for her wonderful musical talent on the piano. She attended Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kansas, where she received her teaching certificate. Mary then returned to Burlington where she taught at a country school near Kanorado, Kansas, and later taught the fifth grade in Burlington.
On August 31, 1952, Mary married Emil F. Korbelik. She had two children; Barney and Mary Anne. She worked as a substitute for many years and took the secretarial position in 1965. She retired from the Burlington School System in 1984.
Mary remained active after her retirement. She and Emil did some traveling and enjoyed their grandchildrenâs activities. Mary and Emil celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in 2002.
She was a member of the St. Catherineâs Altar and Rosary Society and also served on the Parish Building Fund for the first St. Catherineâs Church that was built. She also served as a member of the Burlington Library Board.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Emil of 52 years.
She is survived by her two children Barney Korbelik and his wife Mia of Dodge City, Kansas and Mary Anne Kindred and her husband Gary of Stratton. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Brian Kindred, Bridget Kindred, Hunter Korbelik and Quinn Korbelik, and two great grandchildren Kaden and Peyton Kindred.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Korbelik were held on Friday, March 24, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the St. Catherineâs Catholic Church in Burlington with Father Ernest Bond officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation was held on Thursday, March 23, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Parish Rosary that was recited at 7:00 at the Church in Burlington.
Memorials may be made in Maryâs name to the St. Catherineâs Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Caring Hands Hospice and may be left at the Bank of Burlington in Burlington.
