My sympathies go out to you all. You had a very special mother. I so enjoyed having her as a client at the beauty shop. She was such a breath of fresh air. I am thinking of you at this time.

For every generation there are those who truly inspire us with their story. Zephia Katherine Hollowell's story is one that shows us the kind of person it took to survive on the plains over the past 100 years. I just learned today of Zephia's passing and of the large gathering of family and friends that followed. It is times such as these that bring devoted friends and family together and remind us of just how precious we are to each other and how one person's life can touch so many. Make this a time of celebration -- celebrate Zephia's life.

Almost 20 years ago I came home to Limon for my father's funeral, and when I went to my grandmother's house, Zephia was there. For a little while the three of us sat in the living room, visiting. Zephia told us a story about my dad as a young man, frying hamburgers as fast he could at the Lincoln County Fair barbeque. The lines were long and people were hungry and most of those burgers went out pretty rare. Imagining him like that makes me smile. Zephia gave me that good memory, and I always think of her when I think of it.

What an amazing life! I'm sorry I never had the opportunity to meet this remarkable woman -- but I see a lot of her spirit in her granddaughter, Teri!
