Obituary of Ruby Goodwin
Ruby was born August 11, 1911 in Regnier, Colorado to Robert and Myrtle Patterson. She departed this life May 16, 2006.
Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Springfield, Colorado where her father, a medical doctor, had moved his practice. She spent most of her childhood in and around this area.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Wendell Van (Bill) Goodwin, a sister, Olive (Pearl) Fuller of Seibert and a stepsister, Geneva Sturdavant of Springfield, Colorado. She is survived by a brother, Robert L. Patterson of Pueblo, Colorado, three sons; Alan L. Tanner and wife Shirley of Northglenn, Colorado, Jesse L. Goodwin and wife Olga of Tucson, Arizona and Billy L. Goodwin of Grandby, Colorado. There are also three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. All who knew and loved her will miss her.
In 1934 Ruby moved to Los Angles, California for several years with her first husband Tom Tanner. Their son Alan was born during the time they were in Los Angles.
In 1942 Ruby and the family moved to Tenino, Washington. While in the Tenino area, Ruby enjoyed singing and playing the guitar in a family band at dances around the lumber camps. Ruby later divorced and she and her son moved back to the Los Angles area.
During World War II Ruby worked in the Northup Aircraft factory in Los Angles assembling the P-61 (Black Widow) night fighters for the war effort.
In 1945 she moved to Flagler, Colorado where she worked as a waitress for B K Moss at the M&S Café. It was during this time she met, dated and later married Bill Goodwin.
Soon after their marriage, they moved to Seibert, Colorado where they lived there for a few years. Their first son, Jess was born while they lived there.
Later they moved to a ranch about 25 miles south of Seibert where they ran cattle and did some farming. Ruby enjoyed growing vegetables and working in her garden. It was during their time on this ranch their second son Billy was born.
Shortly after Billy was born, they moved to a farm 3 miles north of Seibert where Ruby again enjoyed her gardening. During this time Ruby also worked part time as a waitress in Seibert.
Later the family moved back to Flagler where Ruby worked as a cook and waitress in several restaurants in the Flagler and Seibert area.
After all the children where grown and had moved away. Ruby & Bill moved to a small ranch on the edge of Flagler where they ran a few cattle and raised some horses. Ruby loved being around the horses and helping feed them and the cattle. (She liked to take sugar cubes down to the horses in the corrals when they came in for water). While on this ranch, they both retired. They later moved into town to the Parrish Care Center. After Billâs death, Ruby moved to the Nursing Home in Hugo, Colorado where she resided until her death.
