Obituary of Wendell Butler
Wendell Earl Butler passed away on May 31, 2006 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Wendell was born to Jesse and Lillie (Rogers) Butler on October 9, 1923 in El Dara, Pike Illinois the eldest of 12 children.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Marjorie L. (Barker) Butler and 6 children; Nancy (Carl) Hutchins of Sanford, CO, Gregory (Rinda) Butler of Penrose, CO, Ronald (Robbie) Butler of Englewood, CO, Karen (Jimmy) Moyle of Indian Hills, CO, Kathy (Ralph) Stull of Hartsburg, MO, and John (Martha) Butler of Agate, CO, 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Wendell is also survived by four brothers; Paul (Charlotte) Butler of Quincy, IL, Bryce (Mary) Butler of Quincy, IL, Bruce Butler of Fullerton, CA, Roy (Joan) Butler of Fullerton, CA and two sisters; Barbara (Gene) Pine and Jeannie (Jim) Hall of Quincy, IL, two sister in-laws Dee Butler of CA, Linda Masters of KS, and one brother in-law Sherman Baker of CA.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Ella May and Carolyn, three brothers; Donald, Charles, Dennie and two grandchildren; Angie and Shanahan.
During his lifetime he was a baker, farmer, janitor, security guard and a cattle rancher. Wendell farmed in IL and MO until moving to Golden, CO in 1958 ~ 1964 then in Conifer, CO 1964 ~ 1986. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a member of the American Legion of Simla, CO. Wendell loved spending time with family and friends.
Wendell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served as an Elder and High Priest.
He served Army Air Forces in World War II in the 625 L.E. Company from 1943 through 1947. Wendell was a very patriotic man and took great pride in his country.
The funeral service will be held in Calhan, CO at the Calhan Latter Day Saints Chapel on Monday, June 5, 2006 at 3:00 P.M. with burial at Fort Logan in Denver, CO on June 6, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. with full military honors.
Visitation will be held Monday one hour prior to the Funeral Services at the Calhan Latter Day Saints Chapel in Calhan.
