Obituary of Walter Meyers
Walter P. Meyers died peacefully on July 1, 2006, in Hugo, CO. He was born on February 10, 1920, in Stratton, CO. He attended school in Stratton, CO. He married Leona Stoffel on November 14, 1940. He was drafted into the Army and upon his discharge he was employed by the Navy at San Clemente Island as a carpenter. In 1944, he and his family returned to Stratton, CO, where they purchased a farm and lived for 22 years. While living on the farm, he worked for Colorado Mobile Homes as a foreman for 4 years. In 1966, the family moved back to the town of Stratton where he worked as a self-employed mail carried for 18 years. He retired on August 30, 1985. His greatest loves were hunting (elk), fishing, and carpentry. He was a member of the American Legion for 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Amy Bryson and Frederick Meyers, brothers Charles Allen and Evan Meyers, and sister Aletha Bowers. He is survived by his wife Leona Meyers, sister Viola Howell, sons Ronald Meyers and Robert Meyers, grandchildren Rhonda Knight, Michelle Merlau, Michaela Meyers, and Renee Moan, and great grandchildren Emily Merlau, Brannen Moan, Taryn Moan, and Sydney Merlau.
At his request he will be cremated with no viewing. A memorial service will be held on July 15, 2006, at 1pm at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington, CO. Friends who desire may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org) or the American Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index.asp).
