Obituary of John Shulda II
John C. Shulda of Flagler passed away on Monday, August 7, 2006 at the Sandhaven Care Center in Lamar, CO after a short illness.
John was born in Cuba, Kansas on January 16, 1906 to John and Betty (Zachek) Shulda, one of six children (three sisters and two brothers.) Johnâs family moved to Flagler in 1921, where he attended Flagler High School and graduated in 1926. He married Ruth Heid on August 28, 1926 in Flagler. They had two sons; John Cecil III and Donald James (Jim) Shulda.
John and Ruth farmed and ranched in Flagler until 1938, when they moved to Idaho Springs, CO where John was a mail carrier from Black Hawk to Central City until 1942. He attended night school to learn the electrical trade. In 1942 they moved back to Flagler where John took a job of superintendent for the town of Flagler. He did everything from bookwork to maintaining the power plant. In 1946 John started his own business as an electrician. He was on the Flagler School Board from 1954 to 1966. John retired at age 85 from the electrical work, but farmed until he was 90. He still did small jobs for his friends when they needed something fixed.
John attended the First Congregational Church in Flagler, loved to play cards, (especially pitch) and liked to visit with friends and neighbors. John was an active member in the Flagler Lionâs Club until January 2006 when he celebrated his 100th birthday.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, his brothers; Ernest and Joe, two sisters; Olive and Lottie and his son; John Cecil.
He is survived by his son; Jim and wife Eldora (Klusman) of Lamar, CO, two grandchildren; Laura and David Derby of Brighton, CO, and James Danial (Dan) and Annette (Garcia) Shulda of San Jose, CA, two great grandchildren; Jessica and Erica Shulda of San Jose, CA, one sister; Marcilla Regenscheid of Cuba, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church in Flagler, CO with Pastor Bob Strauch officiating. Interment will follow at the Flagler Cemetery in Flagler, CO.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Love Funeral Home in Limon.
