Obituary of Maurice Fagerlund
Maurice Wayne Fagerlund, age 88 of Flagler, Colorado passed away August 26, 2006 in Denver, Colorado.
Wayne was born December 12, 1917 in Melvin, Iowa to Hugo P. and Mabel R. (Appel) Fagerlund. Wayne attended school and graduated from Swea City High School in Swea City, Iowa. Following graduation he managed the Quaker Oats Elevator in Renwick, Iowa.
On December 5, 1940 Wayne entered the United States Army and served as a medic in the European and North African War Theater during World War II and was honorably discharged in August 5, 1945.
Wayne married Alberta J. Nathan on September 5, 1945 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. To this union three sons were born. Wayne and Alberta moved to Flagler in 1948 where Wayne managed the Snell Grain Elevator for 20 years and then started the Colorado Bird Seed Company which later became Wagner Bros Bird Seed. Wayne enjoyed his work very much and retired in 2003 at the age of 84.
Wayne was a 50 year member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge #77 and the Sterling Eastern Star # 68. He was a member of the VFW in Siebert and the American Legion Post #81 in Flagler. Wayne served Flagler and Kit Carson County as an ambulance driver/EMT on a pilot program for the first rural volunteer ambulance service in the state of Colorado. He was an avid sports fan from watching his sons and grandchildrenâs sporting events to the Nuggets and Broncos.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Gene and Chester, and one sister Vivian.
Wayne is survived by his wife Alberta of Flagler, CO. Three sons Gary and wife Judy Fagerlund of Flagler, Colorado, Larry and wife Sue Fagerlund of Greeley, Colorado, Randy and wife Pam Fagerlund of Flagler, Colorado. Six grandchildren; Eric Fagerlund of Denver, Colorado, Lona Fagerlund of Burlington, Colorado, Brian Fagerlund of Lamar, Colorado, Heidi Fagerlund of Hoboken, New Jersey, Sheryl Fagerlund of Denver, Colorado, Daniel Fagerlund of Flagler, Colorado, and one great grandson Kyler Wayne Fagerlund. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Flagler with Pastor Bob Strauch, officiating. Burial will follow in the Flagler Cemetery in Flagler, Colorado.
