Obituary of Martha Sams

Martha LaVerna Sams 84 passed away on September 5, 2006 in her home in Rush, CO.
Martha was born on October 25, 1921 in Bison, OK to Orville Edgar and Sarah (Patten) Golding one of six children. Martha graduated High School in Lacy, Oklahoma in 1938. She then attended Greeley Teachers College later named the University of Northern Colorado for two years. Martha began teaching in Kanza for one year and then three years at Columbine School prior to starting a family. In 1966 Martha returned to complete her education graduating in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught 22 years at Miami-Yoder School.
Martha married William Dean Sams on March 20, 1943 in Colorado Springs, CO. This couple was blessed with six children. The couple lived at the Samsâ home place their entire married life.
Martha was a member of Kendrick Bible Church where she played the organ and piano for church services. She was a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher for years. Martha was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Society, El Paso County Home Demonstration Club, Farm Bureau, Colorado Wheat Association and El Paso County Soil Conservation. She enjoyed cooking and embroidery. Martha loved traveling especially with her grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Marjorie, and one great grandchild Hudson.
Martha is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dean Sams of Rush, CO, their children; Yvonne (Larry) Williams of The Woodlands, TX, Karen (Randy) Gieck of Ellicott, CO, Vincent (Joy) Sams of Gillette, WY, Cheryl (Rick) Cofer of Calhan, CO, Myron (Debra) Sams of Ft. Morgan, CO and Marlene (Jon) Duncan of Santa Clarita, CA, three brothers; Don Golding of Rush, CO, Chuck Golding of Riverton, WY, and Tom (Judy) Golding of Limon, CO, one sister, Maxine West of Calhan, CO, twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Martha will be greatly missed by her family as well as her community.
Her friends and family will forever cherish the memory of her empathy towards others, her deep faith, and her courage, optimism and productivity during her long battle with cancer, which she refused to let rule her life.
Funeral services for Martha will be held Friday, September 8, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the Kendrick Bible Church in Rush, CO with interment following at Kanza Cemetery in Rush, CO. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 7, 2006 from 4-6 p.m. at the Love Funeral Home in Limon, CO.
