Obituary of John Schulte
Longtime Stratton, Colorado resident John Andrew Schulte passed away on October 13, 2006 at the St. Anthony Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He was 84 years old.
John Andrew Schulte was born February 8, 1922 in Windhorst, Kansas to the late Rudolf and Frances (Droste) Schulte. He was married to Leona (Rainosek) Schulte on July 16, 1946 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn, Texas. After marriage he lived in Spearville, Kansas and ran a Sinclair filling station until April 13, 1948 when he moved to a farm six miles southeast of Stratton, Colorado. There he farmed and ranched and raised cattle and wheat. He lived in Stratton until his death.
He was a 1940 graduate of Spearville Kansas High School. As a young man in school he enjoyed being an active member of the football team.
He was inducted in the United States Army on October 9, 1942 and served in the South Pacific. John was injured while overseas and spent time in the hospital overseas and then in Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco, California. He was moved to the Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He spent a total of six months in the hospital. He received his honorable discharge on December 23, 1944.
He was a faithful member of the St. Charles Catholic Church where he was a lector for two years and communion minister for six years. He was elected to the first parish council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2099. He got his soil conservation certificate of honor in 1963 and also held office in the ASC in 1974. John was a life member of the V.F.W Post 6491 and American Legion Post 138.
He is survived by his children John Michael and wife Connie of Plano, Texas, Jo Lyn Garrison of Stratton, Colorado, Darrell and wife Cherrelyn of Littleton, Colorado and William and wife Kellie of Salida, Colorado. Grandchildren Christina Stine, Cyndi Arakas, Peter Schulte, Kevin Garrison, Scott Schulte, David Schulte, William Willis, Leona Breakall, Marvin Willis, Zachary Schulte, Adam Schulte, Christian Schulte, Megan Schulte and one great grandchild Zander Timothy Willis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, one sister, one daughter and one grandson.
Funeral Services for Mr. Schulte were held on October 17, 2006 at St. Charles Catholic Church at 10:00 AM in Stratton, Colorado with Father Ernest Bond officiating. Casketbearers were Dallas Schulte, Charles Schulte, Rein Stegman, Kenny Schulte, Larry Schulte and Rick Weingardt.
Memorials may be made in Johnâs name to the Stratton Ambulance Fund and may be left at the First National Bank Stratton, Colorado.
