Chad - September 28, 2015
Posted: September 28, 2015 | Last Revised: September 28, 2015
I dont know that I have a story Chad. I first got to know you when I worked in bookkeeping at TA. You were always happy, hard working and a little bit ornery. You and Veronica became engaged and she so wanted a dress, but couldnt afford one, so I sold her mine. Now it was in much need of being updated and she had so many plans for it, but it just wasnt in the cards. I was so happy for you that you went on and went to mechanic school, and stuck it out, even when many didnt think you could. When you came back, you still were that hard working kid, that could always make me smile. After leaving TA for awhile, I went back to Subway at night to help Ralinda and make a little extra money and here you came. Evan and you were the dynamic duo. If I worked with one, I usually had both, and closing was a breeze. On my day off Id take you two ice cream, strawberry lemonades for McDonalds what ever to keep you happy, I was in fear of losing you. Then one night in you came, so excited you were going to be a Daddy. You had bought shoes and told me you were getting matching ones. You were a great Daddy, you just left to soon.

"Paybacks" Can Be Fun Too... - September 26, 2015
Posted: September 26, 2015 | Last Revised: September 26, 2015
Adam and Chad happened to be back in the "neighborhood" the Christmas of 2013, so the Arriba cousins hunted them down Christmas day to join the gang. It was a great day for alot of reasons, but one moment stands out where we girls (all two of us) got the boys gathered together for some group pics with their Grandpa Ben. At 80-something Grandpa needs a walker to support himself, which makes him slow and vulnerable to anyone willing to tease him. Grandpa certainly did his share of teasing throughout all our lives and it seems our purpose in life is to now pay-it-back as best we can. As I recall, it was Chad and Adam who started this particular payback moment...with some encouragement from the girls, of course. Chad turned Grandpas cap to the side, put his arm around Papas shoulders, Adam showed-off his tattoos, and the boys pulled-off an awesome Stud-Muffin pic with Grandpa grinning his silly grin from ear-to-ear. It was an awesome moment!
We were able to chat a bit that day too, the whole gang, which had its uncomfortable moments. Talking about family stuff naturally comes with awkwardness, but Chad was an open book and I appreciated that about him. He spoke of his love for big brother Brandon, and of course his adoration for Layla who was born just a few weeks earlier. He seemed surprised by how much love he found himself feeling for her...Daddy Shock, I guess - Adam knows all about that too. There was an obvious connection with Adam and Chad, both enjoying the little kids running around...those three boys attract little kids to them like bees to honey...love that!
Ill remember Chad as a deeply feeling, sensitive, opinionated goofball...some of the best qualities of those available to we humans.

Camping at the Cabin - September 10, 2004
Posted: September 10, 2015 | Last Revised: September 10, 2015
Although the specific details of this story are unknown, the experience and memories are special and very real. A member of Chads family, invited the Limon Boys Scouts to spend a few days in their cabin for snowshoeing, sledding, and all sorts of fun. Again, I cannot recollect the area, owner of the cabin, or exactly when it happened, but it was so much fun! Led by Tom Wienk and Tom Hilferty, the scouts trip consisted of a few select members, Chad and Adam, and some of their friends. Adam and I were pretty close at the time. He liked to call me "church boy" as an ironic nickname given the nature of what we would do together: trouble. But
Chad I did not know well until after that trip. Only a few days in fire-heated cabins, freezing snowball fights, and hand crafted toboggan runs made Chad and I buddies. Unfortunately, the trip and my constant encouraging did not convince him to join the troop, but we found ways to have fun and get to know each other. After Adam left Limon, Chad became my new partner in crime, but we outgrew the mischief. Instead we ran track, survived school, and hed occasionally allow me into his home to flirt with his sister Michelle.
It has been a very long time since hearing from Chad, and receiving this news is awful. My condolences to his family and friends. I will be praying that God comforts you in this difficult time by reminding you of all the great things your son/brother/father Chad has done. He was a great friend and instilled many memories of fun, excitement and adventure into my life. Thank you, God for Chad and all the people he touched.
