Memories of Lawrence - March 30, 2016
Posted: March 30, 2016 | Last Revised: March 30, 2016
I met Lawrence in about 1982 when I stopped at his house and asked his permission to hunt doves on his land. Lawrence gave me his permission to hunt and that was the beginning of a great friendship. I did not miss visiting Lawrence each year for the next 34 years, from 1982 through 2015. I always brought my sons with me while they grew from children to young men. Every year we all looked forward to our annual visits with Lawrence. I loved talking with him, he was like a walking history book. He was sharp as a tack all of those years, very knowledgeable about current events and all sorts of other things. His generosity in sharing his home with me and my sons is something I will never forget. I was privileged to know him and will miss him very much. Rest in peace my friend.

Lawrence was a kind and giving man. I learned to bird hunt on the farm some 30 years ago as a kid and returned in an annual pilgrimage of sorts every year since. We grew older but Lawrence was always the same with his practical viewpoints and kind words. The farm is a very special place and will always hold a warm place in my heart. Thank you Lawrence for allowing us the opportunity! As a land trust board member in the mountains I respect and appreciate the conservation easement that was put in place to conserve the agricultural heritage and way of life. A great legacy. Nick

My condolences to the family on the loss of your loved one. Losing someone you love is truly difficult and I know Lawrence will be missed. It is at times like this that we can to look to the Bible for comfort. God promises at Isaiah 25:8 that "he will swallow up death forever." And for those who have died, he promises a resurrection at Acts 24:15. I encourage you to enter the following URL into your browser to read or listen to "When Someone You Loves Dies" (tinyurl.com/phdr4kv).
