Obituary of Grace Swanson

Grace Lydia Swanson, age 92 of Limon, Colorado passed away May 6, 2007 at the Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo.
Grace was born on April 8, 1915 in Limon, Colorado to John Andrew and Estella (Beam) Huffman. Graceâs family homesteaded north of Limon in the Walkâs Camp area. She attended Walksâ Camp #1 School and then Limon High school through the tenth grade.
Grace married Rudolph W. Swanson on February 6, 1935 in Golden Colorado. They lived on a farm and ranch where they raised registered Hereford cattle until 1949, when they sold the place and moved to Limon. In 1951 they bought the K & S Motel. In 1954 they sold their interest in the Motel to their partners and Mr. Swanson went into the carpentry business. Grace and Rudolph spent their summers at there cabin at Green Mountain Reservoir near Heeney, Colorado where Rudolph worked summer construction. In August of 1978 they moved to Zapata, Texas. Following Rudolphâs death in 1990 Grace moved back to Limon.
Grace was a member of the Limon United Methodist Church, the AARP, and the Registered Hereford Association. Grace enjoyed reading, latch hook, crocheting, and working crossword puzzles. She was very athletic in her younger years and played a number of sports. She followed Limon Athletics her entire life. In the 50âs and 60âs she was a football scout for Coach Gaskill. She was an inducted as an honorary L Club Member in 1995 for her many years of service to Limon Athletics. Grace loved the outdoors and always grew a large garden and canned many jars of peaches that she picked at Grand Junction each fall. Grace loved animals especially cats and watching the wild birds she fed.
Grace is survived by a host of Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews and extended family and friends.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Mabel Burgess and Betty Slater, two half sisters Gladys Maupin and Twila Lyon, four brothers Jacob, Boyd, Sylvan, and Frank Huffman.
Funeral services for Grace will be held Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Limon with Reverends Frank and Linda Hoover, officiating. Burial will follow in the Walkâs Camp Methodist Cemetery north of Limon.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Love Funeral Home in Limon.
