To all of you that have signed in. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have enjoyed reading all the kind words about my dad. Thank You so much for that. All of your memories that you share help me in knowing that my dad was as special to you as he was to me. Still hard for me to believe and finding that each day seems to be harder. Thank you for all taking the time to sign in and sharing your special thoughts...... kelly elwood

What a shock!! We will always remember his fun spirit, our trip to Vegas in March, white russians, teaching us Texas Hold'em, golfing, his metal work, and enjoying life. Our hearts and love to the family. Let us know if we can help in any way....

Our deepest condolences to the children of Duane and his siblings,Deanna, Darlene, Dale, Donita and Dennis. Oh where do I begin? I was just startled to hear the sad news. You all were just like a family to me, Donita and I were like glue from 7th grade thru graduation, spent many hours with the "Ridder Family". So many good memories,at the farm, school bus, class reunions and the last time I visited with Duane was the last class reunion I attended in Burlington, what a good time I got to spend with him, found out a lot of things about him I didn't realize after all the years I'd spent with my "other" family. Oh how you will miss him. But always be consoled that one day you will meet up with him again. Duane was a very good person, kind hearted and talented. I am just so saddened for your loss. Please keep in touch with me, I would love to hear from you. Love to all, Elva

My condolences to the family. Duane was always friendly & upbeat about life. I grew up s. of Burlington and was one of his classmates. I moved to Kit Carson in 1959 after our freshman year. The class of 62' at Burlington always invited me to their calss reunions even though I graduated from Kit Carson. In the late 60's my wife & I were able to attend a class reunion at Burlington. The morning of the reunion, Duane met me for coffe and he brought me up to date on everyone that I remembered from our class. To me, he hadn't changed. He was still the same outgoing, friendly person that I had remembered. Corky Hines

We spent a little of the evening with Duane last fall and had fun remembering old times. He was an upper classman I admired as a handsome, athletic leader in school when I was younger. As I recall , he may have been president of the student body, making decisions that we younger kids were affected by. I held great respect for him primarily because, while he could have been pious like others, he always greeted and addressed us younger kids by name. It made us feel important to him. We talked that night of his amazing ability to make things out of metal. I told him how I admired the way he kept his pretty place. He spoke highly of his children and talked about family. He teased in his unique style, helping me remember how genuine and fun he always was. Duane represents to many of us who loved him just how tenuous life can be. Each day we must know our destiny should we not wake in the morning. It requires, as we choose between Heaven or hell, one or the other, for us to take a proactive effort to declare on whose side we are. By what we discussed that night, Duane had chosen a side. We'll see you up there, dear friend. And we will miss you here. Our sympathy to all the family. Butch and Sandee Strobel

Brenda, Kelly and Dustin, Our thoughts and prayers are with you, I had just talked to your dad about a month ago, discussing everything from the weather to our 50th class reunion. Linda and I sat here at lunch, as I am sure everyone is, in total shock. I so wish there was something I could do or say to remove the pain and sorrow that you are feeling. I have reflected back today, as I still am here at midnight over about 57 or 58 years of memories from the first grade on. I spent many a night in the Ridder homestead as Duane did at the Tyrrell house in town, many a Saturday afternoon I would ride my bike out to the home place and we would just sit there on the south end the house discussing our plans and dreams and laughing at ourselves. The happenings of the last two days were never a part of our plans and dreams. Your dad was a wonderful person and a great friend for many years, Brenda and Kelly, you will remember this friendship was put to the test with many rocky roads from about 1978 to 1985, those roads were smoothed out and all fences mended, because true friendships will with stand all tests and time and this one certainly did, for that I am so grateful. Your dad will certainly be missed by his family and friends and the entire Burlington Community. God Bless, our love to all, George and Linda Tyrrell
