Obituary of Vyonda Duncan

Longtime Stratton, Colorado resident Vyonda Marie Overmiller Duncan, age 85, died Wednesday August 8, 2007 at the Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. Vyonda was born February 21, 1922 in Bird City, Kansas to Vern and Almyra (Johnson) Overmiller. As Vyonda grew up she attended school in Bird City, Kansas; Seibert and Flagler, Colorado. On January 19, 1939 she was united in marriage to Everett Harley Duncan in Gem, Kansas. Four daughters were born to this union, Barbara, Virginia, Marilyn and Betty. Vyonda was a loving mother and grandmother. She cared for her garden, chickens, and cats on the farm while raising her four daughters. She was excellent cook and helper for Everett in the field as well as with the cattle. She loved time spent with her daughters and her grandchildren and going to her family reunions in California. Vyonda was a member of the Vona Baptist Church, the Stratton Senior Center and the RSVP. She was an 18-year member of RSVP and the Stratton Senior Center where she loved volunteering to help the organization and others. She enjoyed traveling with the Senior Center members and her family when she took lots of pictures. Her hobbies included bowling, playing cards, especially pitch. She loved playing BINGO and enjoyed raising beautiful house plants. She enjoyed working on her word search books, too. She seldom missed calling folks on their birthday and/or anniversary. She was a very avid Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan and rarely missed a game if it was on TV. Preceding her in death were her parents, Vern and Almyra Overmiller, her loving husband Everett Duncan and a daughter Marilyn Duncan. She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Mason of Iowa City, Iowa; Virginia Burns of Stratton, Colorado and Betty Ralston of Golden, Colorado. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Cheryl (Mason) Cox, Eatonville WA, John Burns, Del Ray Beach FL, Lisa (Burns) Krutsch, Lakewood CO, Julie Miller, Arvada CO and Eric Miller, Colorado Springs CO. Six great-grandchildren: Brian Thompson, Jessica Thompson, Skyler and Colton Krutsch, Joshua and Mikhala Miller. Two great-great grandchildren Damien and Jayden Walkling. Vyonda is also survived by two sisters Belva Overmiller of Sebring, Florida and Deanna (Tom) Getchell of Walnut Creek, California. Two brothers Bernard Overmiller of Newark, California and Bill Overmiller of Weed, California. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday August 17, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Vona, Colorado with Pastor Ben Jansen officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Memorials may be made in Vyondaâs name to the Colorado Chapter of the American Cancer Society and may be left at or mailed to the First National Bank, 141 Colorado Avenue, Stratton, Colorado 80836.
