Nina Lorene McCune, 84, of Mesa, Arizona and former longtime Burlington, Colorado resident, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside, on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.
Nina Lorene Finlay was born December 9, 1922 near Zook, Kansas to James Edward and Lilly Dale Finlay, the youngest of five children.
She lived near Belpre, Kansas and attended country schools in that area. She graduated from Belpre High School in 1941.
On March 13, 1949, she married the love of her life Harold J. âMickeyâ? McCune in Kinsley, Kansas. In 1950 Mickey and âSkipâ? as she was known to family and friends moved to Burlington.
Mick and Nina began their married life in Burlington with their infant son, Craig J. The family grew with the arrival of Susan Jo, David Lee and Edward Allen McCune.
Nina worked as a loving housewife and mother of four children. She dearly loved sewing, embroidery work, needlepoint and skillfully completed many beautiful projects.
In 1975, upon Mickâs retirement from the livestock business they moved to Mesa, Arizona, where they purchased a home.
Nina had many friends in Burlington and made many more upon their move to Arizona.
She is survived by Harold J. âMickeyâ? McCune, her husband of nearly 58 years and three children, Craig J. of Salt Lake City, Utah; Susan Jo of Burlington; and David Lee of Mesa, Arizona. Three daughter-in-laws Sharon, wife of Craig, Barbara, wife of the late Edward McCune; and Timmie, wife of David; seven grandchildren, Jesse Charles Waugh and wife Paula Sue, Jennifer Susan Waugh; John, J.J. and Jeremy McCune; Dannie and Elizabeth McCune and great grandson Tylar Michael as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Morris Clayton who died at age seven, Everett and Robin; sister Wanda Holland, son, Edward Allen McCune.
Nina was a devoted member of the First Christian Church, Christian Womenâs Fellowship group and Burlington Womanâs Club. She dearly loved her family, her friends and her church. She lived a life full of grace and dignity. She waged a long and courageous battle against Parkinsonâs disease with Mickey at her side.

Harold J. âMickâ? McCune, 85 of Mesa, Arizona and former longtime resident of Burlington, Colorado passed away at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado on Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Greeley, Colorado.
Harold J. âMickâ? McCune was born December 8, 1921 in Butler County, Kansas to Harold Sumner and Vivian LaRue McCune, the eldest of two brothers.
He grew up near Kinsley, Kansas where he worked diligently on the family farm. Mick had an intense passion for playing sports, in particular football, which he played all through high school. He graduated from Kinsley High School on May 22, 1940.
On June 11, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served his country on the USS Peoria. He received an honorable discharge on February 25, 1946.
Mick returned to Kinsley, Kansas to assist his family and work on the farm. On March 13, 1949, he married his sweetheart, Nina Lorene âSkipâ? Finlay at the Congregational Church in Kinsley, Kansas. In 1950, Mick and Skip loaded âMickâs truckâ? and moved to Burlington, Colorado with their infant son Craig J. McCune.
Mick began his livestock career with his âtruckâ? at the Burlington Sale Barn. His career as a livestock broker grew, as well as his family with the arrival of Susan Jo, David Lee, and Edward Allen.
Mick worked long hours in the livestock business. He built a successful career and thoroughly enjoyed the many farmers, ranchers and business people throughout Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas, that he had the honor and pleasure of knowing and working with over many years. He treasured his friends, family, and colleagues, but his true passion in life was sports. He was a âFanâ?atical Bronco season ticket holder from the teamâs inception. He also held the distinction of being a legacy Colorado Buffaloâs ticket holder for 47 years.
In 1975, upon Mickâs retirement from the livestock business, he and Nina moved to Mesa, Arizona where they enjoyed many happy retirement years, until poor health took its toll on Nina and Mick. Mick lost his âsweetheart Ninaâ? on January 17, 2007. Mick so loved his home with Nina, but after she passed away he had a strong desire to make a road trip to Colorado to see family and friends that he dearly loved. Mick made it as far as his brotherâs home in Greeley, Colorado.
Mick was a member of the First Christian Church in Burlington, the Broadway Christian Church of Mesa, Arizona, Burlington VFW Post # 6491, and the Leisure World Lions Club of Mesa, Arizona. He dearly loved his wife of nearly 60 years, Nina, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mick lived a life full of love, joy, laughter and âfootballâ?!
Mick is survived by his dear brother Robert L. McCune, sister-in-law Lida Mae McCune, three of four children; Craig J. of Salt Lake City, Utah, Susan Jo of Burlington, Colorado, David Lee of Mesa, Arizona. Two daughter-in-laws Sharon, wife of Craig J.; Barbara Cebula, wife of the late Edward Allen McCune; seven grandchildren Jesse Charles and wife Paula Sue Waugh, Jennifer Susan Waugh, John, J.J. and Jeremy McCune, Daniel and Elizabeth McCune and great grandson Tylar Michael as well as many nieces, nephews and Mickâs special friend Max Charles Waugh.
Mick was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nina, his parents and youngest son Edward Allen McCune.

Will be held: Monday, October 8, 2007 at 2:00 PM
At City/State: First Christian Church, Burlington, Colorado. Visitation: There will be no Visitation.
Private Inurnment: Will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, Burlington, Colorado.
Memorial Contributions: Memorials may be made in their names to the Parkinson Foundation or the Hospice & Palliative Care of Northern Colorado and may be left at the Equitable Savings and Loan, Burlington, Colorado.
