Maxine Louise Hall was born on October 13, 1919 in Altoona, Kansas to Charles F. and Minnie King. She was the second of three children. She attended elementary and high school in Altoona and graduated in 1937.
Maxine met Robert Hall and they were married on September 28, 1940, in Sedan Kansas. They lived on a small farm in Fredonia, Kansas. They told stories of the flooding of their river-bottom farm, which many times caught them off guard resulting in the loss of chickens and pigs as well as damage to their house and barn.
They moved from Kansas to Hanover, Colorado in 1948 where they farmed for two years and then they moved to Flagler, Colorado in 1950. They lived for a short time in a small house (now Lyle Stoneâs storage shed) which is immediately adjacent to Maxineâs current home in Flagler, and then later moved to a house just outside of Flagler. Before leaving Hanover, Bob and Maxine were blessed with the arrival by adoption of their first child, James Michael in 1948 and in 1956 were blessed again with the arrival by adoption of their second child, Vicki Sue.
In the mid 1950âs, Bob, Maxine and family moved to the north side of Flagler, where they made their home until Bobâs retirement from farming in 1987. During those years, in addition to being a devoted farmerâs wife, Maxine spent her time raising their family, and involving herself in their school activities and her church. Maxine was a member of the First Congregational Church, and served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, Junior and Senior Youth Group sponsor and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society. She was a volunteer at the Bargain Shop for years. Maxine was a member of the Sew and Such Club and became lifelong friends with the members of that club and their families. Maxine loved painting and her home was filled with her original paintings. She loved gardening and was particularly proud of her roses. Maxine was a poem and short-story writer and had several of her short stories published in regional magazines. She loved sewing knitting and crocheting and spent many hours playing her organ and piano. She especially found happiness being around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved watching them grow and listening to stories about their lives and activities.
Florida became their home for a few years in the late 1980âs with Bob and Maxine living on a lake near Winter Garden, where they spent their time boating and fishing and, of course, with Maxine working in her flower gardens and yard. The distance between their family and friends eventually took its toll and they moved back to Flagler in 1992. Maxine continued to live in Flagler even after her beloved husband of over 50 years died in 2000. In 2005 after breaking her hip Maxine moved to a rehab unit in Colorado Springs, returned to Flagler and eventually moved to the Life Care Center in Greeley where she lived until her death.
Maxine passed away on August 18, 2007 in Hugo, Colorado.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Minnie; her brother Jack King and her sister, Frances Hyde. Maxine leaves to mourn her daughter Vicki and husband Bob Sanderson of Greeley and her son Mike and wife Kathy of Colorado Springs and their children Matthew and wife Moya of Denver and Michelle McConnell and her husband Preston and their children Zachary, Joshua, Madelin and Savannah of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Joyce King and several nephews and their families and her extended family of the Lorincesâ, Petersensâ, Murphysâ, Meliasâ, and their families, and numerous other friends.
Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church in Flagler, Colorado on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 10 am. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23 at the Love Funeral Home in Limon from 3 to 6 p.m.
