Obituary of Grace Smith

Grace H. Smith, 90 of Hugo, CO passed away on September 27, 2007 at Lincoln Community Nursing Home.
Grace was born on January 14, 1917 in Vernon County, MO to Oliver and Cora (Smith) Gossett one of eleven children. She attended school through the 10th grade in Missouri. After high school, she worked for a couple north of Lamar, MO, caring for the handicapped woman and keeping house. She was working for another young couple helping with their children when her brother, Pat asked her to come to Colorado to help him in his home. She arrived by train, and while working in Simla, met her future husband, Marion Smith.
She married Marion W. Smith on July 2, 1938 in Kiowa, CO and after numerous moves throughout Colorado, the couple made their home in the Limon area. Grace and Marion were blessed with two children, Larry Wayne and Janice Irene.
Grace loved her family very much and was Marionâs bookkeeper for many of his different businesses. They built the mobile home park after his retirement, and she continue to manage the park while living there after his death in 1976. Grace starting working at Rip Griffin Truck Stop in 1980. She took a couple of years off, and then resumed working there until her retirement in 1992. She always had an open door with friends, neighbors and even strangers. Grace loved to bowl and was the Lincoln County Womenâs Bowling Associationâs Honor Bowler in 1999. She had many bowling trophies and awards throughout her lifetime. Grace also enjoyed fishing.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers, three sisters, one daughter-in-law, two son-in-laws, one grandson-in-law, and one great âgrandson.
Grace is survived by her children; Larry Smith of Limon, CO and Janice Bruzzichesi of Hugo, CO. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Jackie Gossett of Hayward, CA. Her grandchildren included are Deanne Smithburg of Arriba, Co; Jeff Smith (Rhonda) of Genoa, CO: Bobby Schoonover (Twila) of Colorado Springs, CO; Karen Salter (Kevin) of Holcomb, KS; Kay Rudder (Wayne) of Genoa, CO; Greg Smith (Carissa) of Limon, CO: Anna Roan (Shane) of Flagler, CO; and Matthew Bruzzichesi of Colorado Springs, CO. Grace was blessed with 21 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Monday, October 1, 2007, 10:00 A.M. at the Love Funeral Home Chapel in Limon, CO; with burial following at the Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon.
