Obituary of Dale Mitchek

Glen Dale Mitchek was born in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado on December 23, 1929, to Charles J. and Martha (Gentz) Mitchek. He was one of eight children born to this union. Dale died Monday February 18, 2008 at Presbyterian St. Lukeâs Hospital in Denver, CO.
Dale attended school in Cheyenne Wells and began working on the Neil Hawthorne sheep ranch. Later he worked breaking ground for George Jeager and also began farming on his own. He took a lot of pride in raising cattle.
On June 4, 1950 he married to Viola Ortiz at Sheridan Lake, CO. To this union fourteen children were born. Dale enjoyed the time he spent with family at the many reunions, and especially going on the yearly family vacation.
Dale was a farmer and rancher in Cheyenne County Colorado and Sherman County Kansas. He had a love for horses, especially race horses. That fondness was passed along to his children. He was a member of the American Thoroughbred Association, the American Quarter Horse Association, and the New Mexico Horse Breeders Association.
Preceding Dale in death were his parents, infant son Joseph, one brother Charles J. Mitchek Jr., granddaughter Holly Mitchek and grandson Zach Mitchek also precede him.
Surviving family members are his children James Mitchek and wife Patricia of Kit Carson, CO, Glen Mitchek of Cheyenne Wells, CO, Henry Mitchek and wife Linda Russell of Seattle, WA, Donna Potter of Ontario, OR, Charles Mitchek of Cheyenne Wells, CO, Carol Hamann and husband Steve of Garden City, KS, Jeff Mitchek of Tularosa, NM, Jack Mitchek and wife Becky of Goodland, KS, Chris Mitchek of Waxahachie, TX, Vivian Schrek and husband Greg of Elbert, CO, Casey Mitchek and wife Judy of Burlington, CO, Samuel Mitchek of Cheyenne Wells, CO, and Kelly Mitchek and wife Lilah of Waxahachie, TX. Also surviving are three sisters Lila Maxwell of Goodland, KS, Vera Cohea and husband Bill of Greeley, CO, and Betty Vandagriff of Merino, CO. Three brothers Ervin Mitchek and wife Lola of Kit Carson, CO, Allen Mitchek and wife Judy of Sterling, CO, and Milton Mitchek and wife Darlene of Durkee, OR. Dale is also survived by forty-six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of very special friends.
Funeral services for Dale will be held on Monday February 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Community Building in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. His casket will be carried in a horse drawn hearse to the Fairview Cemetery in Cheyenne Wells.
Visitation will be at the Love Funeral Home in Cheyenne Wells on Sunday February 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Memorials may be made in Daleâs name to the Cheyenne County Fire Department, the Keefe Memorial Hospital, or the Field of Dreams project, all of Cheyenne Wells, and may be left at or sent to the Kit Carson State Bank in Cheyenne Wells or to the Goodland Regional Medical Foundation and left at or sent to Bankwest in Goodland, KS.
