Obituary of Dora Knapp
Dora Victoria (Ludwig) Knapp was born September 12, 1928 in Barada, Nebraska to Otto and Bertha (Rose) Ludwig. Dora graduated from St. Francis High School in St. Francis, Kansas and continued her education in Denver, Colorado at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from Mercy in 1947 and was a dedicated nurse for the next 43 years. She spent 34 years caring for patients at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital and several more years at Grace Manor Care Center from where she retired.
Dora married Doren Arvil Knapp on November 6, 1949 at the Christian Church in St. Francis, Kansas. They began their married life in Burlington, Colorado before moving to Alamosa, Colorado in 1950, where Doren began a career as a Colorado State Patrol as a trooper. In 1952, they returned to Burlington where Dora became employed with KCCMH and Doren started his business, Knapps Plumbing and Heating.
To this union four children were born, Dorendo Ra, Deborah Kay, Doyle Alan (Butch) all of Burlington and Paula Sue of Henderson, Nevada.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson and her husband Doren of 38 years.
She is survived by her children Dorendo and her husband Robert Harrel, Deborah and her husband Edward Cure, Doyle and his wife Debra (Stevens), and Paula. She is also survived by grandchildren: Gregory and wife Shannon Cure of Wray, Colorado, Mark and wife Denise Cure of Bethune, Colorado, John Cure of Wray, Colorado, Stanley and wife Jennifer Cure of Goodland, Kansas, Jeffrey Cure of Denver, Colorado, Spencer Cure of Burlington, Colorado, Scott and wife Deborah Harrel of Burlington, Colorado Arianne Knapp of Burlington, Colorado, Krystal Knapp of Colby, Kansas and Brett Knapp of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, two sisters Ilene Raile of St. Francis, Kansas and Velta Powell of Golden Valley Arizona, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Dora cherished her family and enjoyed every minute spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, croqueting afghans for family members. Each family member treasures their afghan and High School activities scrapbook. Dora was an avid sports fan, attending all of her grandchildrenâs games. She enjoyed all the Colorado professional teams, especially the Denver Broncos.
Funeral services for Dora were held on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Church with Dr. John Wrench officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation was held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington.
Memorials may be made in Doraâs name to the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital Nurseâs Scholarship Fund and may be left at or sent to the Equitable Savings and Loan Bank in Burlington.
