View Video Tribute
Walter Leon Huppert began his journey on earth on July 28, 1948. He was born and raised in Stratton, Colorado with his Father George, Mother Twila and three brothers; Willard Wayne and Wilford. They lived on a farm until 1958 when Twila and the boys moved into town shortly after George passed away.
Walt met the love of his life in May 1966. He married Debbie in July 1968. They had three children; Christopher, Jeffrey and Kelly.
Walt served as an army mechanic during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. Upon returning, Debbie and Walt lived in Stratton.
Walt was never one to grow moss around his feet. He and his family moved from house to house, city to city, before settling in Seibert in 1985 to finish raising their children and to begin his own business.
Many memories have been made along Waltâs journey. Playing pitch with the boys and their friends, as well as tinkering on cars and other projects with them.
Walt enjoyed doing things with Debbie and Kelly no matter how girlie they seemed. Like going to craft fairs and shopping for fabric. He enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, visiting family in Missouri, New Mexico, Virginia and going up the hill as long as Debbie was by his side.
Walt was a quiet man who displayed courage, strength, pride, dignity, confidence and love in every aspect of his life. His children and grandchildren have had the honor to be raised with these qualities which gave them a dad and grandpa to be looked upon with respect and admiration. They all strive to be like Walt.
Walt loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed and supported them in every part of their lives. He and Debbie were the center of the family and all the kids were often at his house.
For the past 2 years Walt waged a valient fight with lung cancer. He fought this fight with the same quiet strength and qualities that he lived his entire life. His only concern was for his wife. He wasnât afraid of death. He was ready to begin the next journey of his life. Walt told Debbie that he hoped God didnât want him to roof in heaven because he had done enough of that here.
Walt ended his journey on March 31, 2008 at home with his loving wife Debbie by his side, as they were for nearly 40 years.
Walt was preceded in death by his father George, his mother Twila and his stepfather Martin Bohl and sister-in-law Gertrude Huppert.
Walt is survived by his wife Debbie, their children; Chris and wife Sonia, their sons Keenan and Brandon, Jeffrey and daughters Allison, Rachel and Jessica and his granddaughter Isabella and Kelly and her husband Scott and their daughters, Shelby and Maegan. He is also survived by his three brothers; Willard, Wayne, and Wilford and their families.
