Obituary of Richard Becker
Richard Allen (Dick) Becker, 66, passed away Nov. 5, 2015. Dick was born in Denver CO Sept. 6, 1949, to John O and Helen (Schippert) Becker. He was the youngest of six children. He received his education at Watkins Grade School and Bennett High School and graduated in 1967. He was drafted in to the US Army and served his basic training in Fort Lewis, Washington. He then went to Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for the injuries he received while serving his country. On Oct. 10, 1970, he married Pattie Fletcher Becker, his wife of 45 years. After he was honorably discharged from the US Army, they moved to Agate, CO to the ranch they lived on until his death. Their son, Tim, was born on August 15, 1978, and was Dicks pride and joy. Ranching and farming was Dicks passion, but he also worked at John Deere in Franktown and Limon for 18 years and for Jumping Cow Ranch for 15 years as well. Most recently, he enjoyed fishing trips with family and friends as well as traveling to livestock shows at county, state and national levels which his family has been so passionate about. His granddaughter has been the excitement in his life and he looked forward to her visits and phone calls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Eileen Crandall and his brother Lawrence Becker.
He is survived by his wife, Pattie of Agate, CO; his son Tim and daughter-in-law Monica and his granddaughter Tenley of Holyoke; his sister Joyce Vetter (Dennis) of Lance Creek, WY; his brother Duane (Cheryl) of Bennett; his brother Marvin (Janice) of Deer Trail; his sister-in-law Virg Becker of Rolla, MO; his brother-in-law Harvey Crandall; sister-in-law Dorothy Demaree; brother-in-law Don Rector; brother-in-law Robert Woodis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick has always enjoyed helping young people with not only livestock projects, but supporting them at sporting events as well. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Elbert County 4-H Youth Council PO Box 189 Kiowa, CO 80117.
