Obituary of Mabel Scheierman
Stratton resident Mabel Scheierman, 96, died Saturday, November 21st, 2015 at Grace Manor Center in Burlington, CO. She resided in her home east of Stratton thanks to the loving care of Alice Smith, along with Lyle Garner and Wanda Sweet. She was moved to Aspen Leaf care facility for a short period before her final stay at Grace Manor.
Mabel was born February 27th, 1919. She was one of 7 children born to Joe and Susie Garner in Stratton. She attended Solid Center primary school where she was transported to and from school by pony. She graduated from Stratton High School in 1937. She then attended Anderson College for a short period of time, but returned home due to her mother’s failing health. She went to work at the First National Bank of Stratton upon her return home.
Mabel was united in marriage to Kenny Scheierman on March 4, 1952. She inherited two daughters from that union: Beverly Sue and Betty Bea.
Mabel was a very active member of the Church of God, where she taught Sunday school and bible school for many years. She also served as the church treasurer. She was president of the MSA club and a member for many years. She belonged to the Women of the Church of God, Republican women, the Cattlewomen’s Association and many other various clubs and organizations. She volunteered for many years at the Kit Carson County Carousel, and also for the Colorado Welcome Center. She also worked at the sale barn for a period of time, and spent many years helping Kenny in their farming and ranching operation. Mabel and Kenny had opportunity to visit many countries in their life together, and enjoyed traveling all over the United States.
Mabel is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth; parents, two infant siblings, her brother Bob and sister Norma; her brothers in law Melvin Sweet and Oscar Border, and sister in law Charlene Garner; all of Kenny’s seven siblings; and grandson Lance Short.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Beverly County and husband Jerry of Burlington; daughter Betsy Schutte of Lone Tree, Colorado. Siblings Lyle Garner and Wanda Sweet of Stratton. Four grandchildren, Jeff County and his wife Jill, Jodi Count y, Kenya Huppert and her husband Scott, and Clay Short and his wife Fawn. Also surviving are her great-grand children Jenna Satterly, Jade and Jett County; Justin Long; Jasmine Mlakar; Justine Roop; and Ashtyn and Kaden Huppert. Nieces Sandy Cummings and husband Danny, Bev Quinlan, BJ Cowart, and Mary Tart and husband Larry; nephews Byron Borden and wife Lisa, Dave Gwyn and wife Donna.
