Obituary of Mabel Bishop

Longtime Burlington, Colorado resident Mabel Alvina âPeggyâ? Bishop, age 85, died Sunday April 19, 2009 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington.
Peggy was born on July 27, 1923 in Bethune, Colorado to Conrad and Margaret (Adolf) Meyer.
She graduated from Bethune High School in 1942. She went to Colorado Springs and attended the Bethel School of nursing from 1943 to 1946. She was placed by the school in Sheridan, Wyoming.
In February 1947 she was united in marriage to LaVerne Gill in Sheridan, Wyoming. To this union two children were born, Carol and Paul.
On May 14, 1955 she married Ken Bishop in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They had two children Bonita and William. She would continue her career in nursing in Burlington until 1960.
In 1975 she received her cosmetologist license and operated her own beauty shop, Midway Beauty Shop, in Burlington. She continued cosmetology at Grace Manor and the Legacy until November 2008.
Peggy was a member of the First St. Paulâs Lutheran Church in Burlington. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Denver professional sports teams, the Broncos, Nuggets, and Avalanche. She was also a Chicago Cubs fan. What she enjoyed the most though was March Madness college basketball. She loved to garden and cherished the time she could spend with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, infant sister Alma, and brothers William Meyer, Reuben Meyer, Clord Meyer, and Norman Meyer, and son-in-law Joe Tatkenhorst.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Carol Tatkenhorst of Burlington, Paul Bishop of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Bonita Knox of Clovis, New Mexico, and William Bishop of Gibbon, Nebraska. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Jay Tatkenhorst, Lea Sircy, Andy Bishop, Rob Bishop, Nathan Bishop and Zach Bishop; five great grandchildren Jessica Tatkenhorst, Jacob Cole, Mitchell and Serenity Sircy and Riley Bishop.
Funeral services for Peggy were held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the First St. Paulâs Lutheran Church in Burlington with Pastor Jeff Hanson officiating. Burial followed in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Bethune, Co.
Visitation was held on Tuesday April 21, 2009 at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Peggyâs name to the First St. Paulâs Lutheran Church, Caring Hands Hospice or Grace Manor Care Center and may be left at or sent to The Bank of the West in Burlington.
