Obituary of Ella Beuck
Ella Ann Beuck, of Agate CO passed away October 4, 2009 in Aurora, CO.
Ella Ann was born February 20, 1919 to George and Susan Schrammel at Kit Carson, CO, and baptized into the Lutheran Faith. They lived on a homestead 23 miles Northeast of Kit Carson. The family moved to Herndon, KS in 1919 where they raised wheat and cattle. In 1924 they moved to McCook, NE in 1924. The family returned to Kit Carson in 1925.
Ella Ann graduated from high school in 1935. She attended Colorado State Teachers College for 3 years, receiving a four year Special Teaching Certificate. Ella Ann taught elementary grades at First View, CO for one year, at Arapahoe Consolidated School, CO for two years, and at Kersey, CO for one year. Her average salary was $85 per month, $30 of that went to her room and board.
On January 1, 1942 Ella Ann married August H. Beuck at Grace Lutheran in Cheyenne Well, CO. The couple was blessed with three children, Jananne, Gussie, and Fred. They lived on the ranch near Agate, CO. Ella Ann took her life as a wife and mother very seriously. She spent her days cooking for visitors and sewing for the family. She also canned food for both the family and sheep camps; but Ellaâs true joy was her family. In her later years she greatly enjoyed having grandchildren come to stay; they played games, read books, took walks, baked, and hunted for asparagus on the creek.
She had many interests, including school activities and politics. She served as both president and vice president of the Agate Extension Club; was treasurer of the Agate Friendship Club for 8 years; Chairman of the Elbert Country Society for Crippled Children for 8 years, Chairman of Make it Yourself with Wool for 11 years; and she was on the Board of Directors for the East Central Mental Health representing Elbert Country. In 1983 she started volunteering at the Agate School as a reading Grandmother for K-2 grades, and then started teaching German to the lower grades in 1984. Ella Ann worked with Jump Rope for Heart and was a sponsor of the Voice of Democracy Program at the Agate School. She was a member of the Elbert County Cattlewomen, Elbert Country Republicans, and Smokey Hills Trail Historical Society. Ella Ann received an award for the outstanding Volunteer of the Year of the Colorado Association of Partners in Education on October 27, 1995
Ella Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, George, Walter, Rose, Florence, Elsa, and Martha. Ella Ann is survived by her children; Fred (Karen) Beuck of Agate, CO, Jananne Garl of Parker, CO, and Gussie Ross of Vail, CO; her grandchildren; Karli (Ed) Golliher of Limon, CO and their children Edie and Peyton; Erinn (Brian) Hernandez of Ft. Collins, CO; Kate (Matt) Sidgwick of Singapore; Pamela Garl of Parker, CO, and Sheila (Chris) Brol of Lompoc, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Ella Ann was held on Monday, October 12, 2009, 10:00 A.M. at the Agate School, Agate, CO.
