Obituary of Jerry Meier
Wm. Jerry Meier departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on the 1st day of November, 2009. Jerry was born August 17, 1942 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska to William and Esther (Kaufman) Meier. He was the oldest of four children. During his childhood he lived in Minatare, Nebraska area, where his family farmed. He attended schools in Minatare and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He started driving tractor at the young age of 6 years.
On December 23rd 1960 he married Betty Brown of Gering, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born Connie Sue and Tracy Jean.
The first nine years of their marriage Jerry and Betty farmed in the North Platte Valley in Nebraska. Jerry earned the honor of being chosen for Great Western High 10 Sugar Beet Growers for the years 1966 and 1967. In 1969 he and his family moved to Burlington, Colorado to farm. In March of 1973, he started his own construction/grading contractor business. He was in business as Meier Construction for 32 years working throughout Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Texas. He served on the Kit Carson County Planning Board Committee for several years. In 1988 he was also instrumental in relocating the 40` blue spruce tree from Rose Ave to the Kit Carson County fair grounds. His favorite hobby was being involved with the Eastern Colorado Antique Tractor Pullers Association. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by wife Betty, daughter Connie Weisshaar and husband Kent, daughter Tracy Lambert. Grandchildren Amber (Weisshaar) Vaughn and husband Derek along with their two children Andre and Hailey, April and Andrea Weisshaar and grandson Zachary Lambert all of Burlington. Brother Richard Meier and wife Kathy and family of Alliance, Nebraska, sister Jaci Torres and husband Alan and family of Oakley, California.
He was preceded in death by parents, and younger brother Robert.
