Obituary of Anton "Tony" Gornick
Anton Tony Gornick, age 89, of Limon, Colorado passed away January 10, 2010 at Carlas Cluster Care in Limon. Tony was born on May 4, 1920 in Pueblo, CO to parents Anton and Mary (Popvich) Gornick. The family made there home in Pueblo until Tonys mother died from pneumonia when he was three. At that time, Tony went to live with his foster parents, who were also his aunt and uncle, John and Margaret (Gornick) Jaklich in Kutch, CO.
Tony attended two years of school at Columbine and another six years at Brown Dodd. Following school, Tony worked for Gordon Brothers until 1951 when he relocated to Walden, CO to work for J.W. Tamlin cutting timber. In April, 1955, Tony moved again to Colorado Springs to work for Rocky Mountain Paving. He held this position for 21 years, before transferring to the City of Colorado Springs Street Department. Tony retired in 1982, and then moved to Limon, CO.
Tony enjoyed bowling and horses, and had a love for the land. He lived a very simple, frugal life. Over the years, Tony played on several town baseball leagues and was a Chicago Cubs fan.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Mary Gornick, and the aunt and uncle who raised him, John and Margaret Jaklich.
Tony is survived by his three cousins; John (Linda) Jaklich of Matheson, CO, Albert Kukar of Wichenburg, Arizona and Agnes (Alfred) Wills of Yoder, CO.
