Obituary of Violet Greenstreet
Violet Lorraine Greenstreet, 85, long time Simla resident, died Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the Simla Good Samaritan Home.
She was born on May, 24, 1924, to John and Sadie (Butler) Wilson at their home south of Tower Hill, near Matheson, Colorado. She lived at home until she went to high school in Simla and stayed in a boarding house during the week. She graduated from Simla Union High School in 1942.
On February 17, 1944 she and Jim Greenstreet were married in Goodland, Kansas. Jim and Violet lived and worked on several ranches around the Simla area. In 1962 they bought the Drug Store in Simla and moved to town. Violet lived in Simla until declining health resulted in her moving first to Carlas Cluster Care in Limon, Colorado and then back to Simla to the Good Samaritan Home.
Mrs. Greenstreet was a member of the Matheson Community Bible Church, where she served as treasurer for many years and as an officer to the Missionary Society. She was a member of the Committee for the Colorado Cowboy Camp Meeting, on the Advisory Board at the Good Samaritan Home, appointed to serve on the Senior Services Advisory Board, a member of the Thunderbird Friendship Club, and a 4-H Club Leader.
After selling the Drug Store in 1973, she worked for the Postal Service both in Simla and Peyton and as the Town Clerk in Simla.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant son.
She is survived by her son, Don (Cheryl) Greenstreet of Monte Vista, CO and daughter, Patty (Dale) Melton of Goodland, KS; four grandchildren, Anne Melton of Goodland, KS, Cory Greenstreet of Denver, CO, Donnelle (Mark) Boso of Hawesville, KY, Daylon Greenstreet of Monte Vista, CO; two brothers, Darrell (Coleta) Wilson of Bixby, OK and Glenn Wilson of Waxahachie, TX; sister-in-laws, Imogene Guy of Strasburg, CO and Betty Greenstreet of Santa Cruz, CA; brother-in-laws, Jerry (Marsha) Greenstreet of Hillsboro, MO, Tom (Mary) Greenstreet of Queen City, MO and Joe (Paula) Greenstreet of Nevada City, CA; as well as numerous cousins.
