Obituary of Paul Moore
Paul Erwin Moore, 83, of Flagler went to be with his Lord and Savior, June 28th in Hugo, CO. He was born July 9th, 1926, in Flagler, to George and Margaret Moore. Paul grew up on a farm 26 miles northeast of Flagler and attended grade school and his freshman year at Fremont and Shilo Schools. He then attended Flagler High School and graduated in 1945.
On August 20, 1945, Paul was united in marriage to the love of his life, Norma Jean Murphy. They lived south of Seibert in the Rock Cliff Teacherage where Norma Jean taught school for two years. Paul continued his farming operations with his father during that time. They moved to Flagler in 1948 and Paul began working for Kit Carson County Road Work.
Paul and Norma Jean were blessed with three children; Theodore Lee, Rhonda Kay and Debra Lou. It was after Debra was born, in 1960, that they moved into their current home in Flagler. In 1953, Paul began working for George Kennedy at the Conoco Bulk Plant and in 1954, he took over and operated the plant until 1978. At that time, D-J Petroleum in Limon, bought the Plant. Paul continued to operate the plant full time until he semi-retired in 1992 and continued part-time until 2003.
After Paul and Norma Jean retired, they headed south to Apache Junction, AZ, pulling their 5th Wheel, to spend three months of the year in the sun. So many dear friends and memories where made on their trips to Apache Junction. Paul was baptized at the Shiloh Baptist Church on May 31, 1936. He was a member of the Shilo Baptist Church and in 1947 transferred his membership to The First Congregational Church in Flagler. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, served the Flagler Fire Department for 30 years, Flagler Ambulance Service for 16 years, was on the Sanitation Board for 20 years and served on The Flagler Town Council for three different terms.
Paul always enjoyed fishing, trap shooting, and hunting. He often brought home trophies and sometimes turkeys for his trap shoot winnings. His greatest love was his wife and family. He always supported his children and grandchildren and later his great-grandchildren in anything they did. Love for life, his beautiful wife and his family radiated from him. He believed that the simple things in life where enough. His legacy of love and family has been passed on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding Paul in death were his parents, George and Margaret Moore; his father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Opal Joy, his brother Merle Moore; sister Mildred Miller and her husband Ralph; one grandson, Jason Gustin; two nephews, Lloyd and Bob Miller.
Left to rejoice in Pauls life are his loving wife of 64 years, Norma Jean; son, Ted Moore and his wife Sandy; daughter, Rhonda Laue and her husband Lark; daughter Debra Gustin and her husband Don; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Rick and Shari Owen, Jessica, Makayla, Jacob, Tyler and Olivia; Eli and Suzanne Moore, Briar and Rylan; Eric and Tandi Moore, Grady and Trevor; Paula and Marc Santala, Kayleigh, Jesse, Zaccary, Kolbey, Sydnie, Charley and Landree; Korena and Cody Powell, Parker, Pryce and Paxtyn; Nicholas and Stacy Laue, Madison and Jordyn; Andrew Gustin; Shalena and Kyle Fox, Bryleigh and many nieces, nephews and friends. God has truly blessed our family with so many memories and so much love. We are so grateful for the wonderful life of our husband, dad and grandpa.
