Obituary of Rosalee Loutzenhiser
Rosalee Loutzenhiser was born on a homestead northeast of Flagler, Colorado, on September 16, 1924, to Lee and Reba (Oliver) Moss. She entered into eternal rest on May 31, 2016, in Hugo, Colorado, at Lincoln Community Hospital. Rosalee grew up as the only child on the family farm northeast of Flagler and attended Fremont Country School through the ninth grade.
A young man who farmed nearby saw Rosalee picking up cow chips to heat the family home and knew that he wanted to marry her. Everett Loutzenhiser finally met Rosalee when he came to her parent’s farm to retrieve something her father had borrowed. Everett and Rosalee were married on December 9, 1941, in Goodland, Kansas. They built a life together with a successful farming and ranching operation north of Flagler and had six wonderful children: Linda, June, Leroy, Ardith, Evelyn, and Randy. They raised their children with lessons in respect, responsibility, kindness, integrity, ingenuity, generosity, and community. They attended Flagler Baptist Church and were involved in the Shiloh and Flagler communities. Rosalee was an active member of the Shiloh Community Club. In 1980, Everett and Rosalee moved into the town of Flagler to enjoy “retirement” and grandchildren while their two sons took over the farming operation. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage before Everett passed away in 1993.
Rosalee was a sweet and loving mother and grandmother. She was known throughout the community for her quiet strength and willingness to help others. Rosalee enjoyed playing card games with friends and family. One of her greatest joys came from watching her grandchildren compete in sporting events, perform at school functions, and other events that were special to each child. She loved her many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and she taught us all how to love unconditionally. Gatherings at “Grandma’s” house were full of fun with laughter, conversation, and competitive games and sports. She was always supportive and encouraged us to strive for our best.
Rosalee is survived by her children: Linda (Norman) House of Goodland, KS; June (Bill) Trahern of Sterling, CO; Leroy (Kathy) Loutzenhiser of Flagler, CO; Ardith (Keith) James of Karval, CO; Evelyn (Ted) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; and Randy Loutzenhiser of Flagler, CO. She is also survived by her twenty-one grandchildren and ten spouses, thirty-one great-grandchildren and eight spouses, and ten great-great grandchildren.
Rosalee was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Loutzenhiser, and her parents, Lee and Reba Moss.
Her smile and love will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
