Obituary of Dollie M. Poggendorf

Cheyenne Wells resident, Dollie Mae Poggendorf passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at her home. She was 81 years old. Dollie was born on December 25, 1935 to William and Augusta (Schmidt) Unruh in Montezuma, Kansas. She was one of ten children born to this union. She attended Ingalls Rural High School and graduated from Garden City, Kansas in 1953. She married the love of her life on September 12, 1954 in Garden City, Kansas. To this union there were four children born; Wesley, Sandra, Carol and Jerry. Dollie was amazing support to her husband, Paul in their years of farm life, from feeding the harvest crew to doing the chores. Some of Dollie’s favorite pastimes were gardening, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Cheyenne Wells. The Lutheran Church in Gothenburg, Nebraska was also a big part of her earlier life. She was a member of the Anniversary Club in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Spending time at the seniors centers also brought many hours of joy to her. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers; Larry, Edward, Lee, Allen and Waldo. Those left to cherish her memories are her children; Wesley (Julie) Poggendorf of Elwood, Nebraska, Sandra (Greg) of Sacramento, California, Carol (Brad) of Arapahoe, Colorado, Jerry Poggendorf of Phoenix, Arizona, three brothers; Dale Unruh of Texas, Raymond (Damaris) Unruh of Kansas, Lester (Verla) Unruh of Florida, sister Betty Mick of West Virginia, eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
