Obituary of Wayne Robert Hartzmann

Longtime Stratton, Colorado resident Wayne R. Hartzmann passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, Colorado. He was 77 years old. Wayne was born on February 28, 1940 to Lester and Ruby (Brown) Hartzmann. He was one of five children born to this union. Wayne attended school in Minnesota and graduated from the high school in Center City, Minnesota in 1958. He served in the United States Army. After spending a year serving in Korea, he returned to Fort Carson, Colorado. While there, he connected with a childhood friend family friend, and they fell in love. He married Catherine (Cathy) May Mitchem on April 2, 1962 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They moved to Minnesota and after spending a few years working at John Deere, they moved back to Colorado to farm with Cathy’s father. Two children were adopted into this union, Anna and Andrew. Wayne was a farmer and rancher and although it was hard work, he took great pride in the work. He loved showing the animals and crops to family and friends when they visited. When spending his days driving the tractor, he would listen to the baseball games on the radio. His favorite teams were the Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals. While days on the farm were busy and long, he would attend sporting events for the kids whenever he could. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cathy, sister, Elnor; and brother, Leo. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Anna (Jeffrey) Michlin of Canyon Country, California and their children Gregory, Maggie, Daniel and Joshua Michlin, his son Andrew Hartzmann of Tampa Florida, brother Kevin (Bonnie) Hartzmann of New Lisbon, Wisconsin, and sister Pam Bier of Perry, Oklahoma, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
