Obituary of Ronald "Ron" Wimmer
Ronald (Ron) Wimmer, 68, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017. Ron fought a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. He died peacefully in his sleep with his wife, Lahna, next to him. They were married for 40 years, and she was truly his best friend and “buddy.”
Ron was born on July 28, 1948 in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado to Paul (Pete) and Marianne Wimmer. He was an only child and grew up in a farm house in Arriba, where he learned to farm and play baseball. He graduated from Arriba High School where he played football, basketball and of course, baseball. After high school, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Western State College and proudly served in the U.S. Army. Ron then returned home to Arriba where he continued farming. He also played fast pitch softball and met the love of his life – Lahna. They were married on October 8, 1976, and had three children – Audrey, Josh, and Dane.
Ron later returned to school where he earned his Master’s Degree in counseling. He worked at Genoa-Hugo School for many years, where he also coached baseball and girls’ basketball. During that time, he made a great impact and was loved by many of the young people that he worked with and coached. Ron later worked in mental health for the Colorado Department of Corrections in Limon, Colorado.
Ron loved fishing, camping and waterskiing trips, Notre Dame, the Yankees, and the Broncos. He enjoyed coaching his Little League and Babe Ruth teams to championships, as much as watching the Broncos Super Bowl victories. However, Ron’s greatest love was always his wife and family. Ron is survived by his wife, Lahna (Hubbard) Wimmer; three children, Audrey (Jason) Galloway of Windsor, Colorado; Josh (Holly) Wimmer of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Dane Wimmer of Las Vegas, Nevada. He adored his four grandchildren, Olivia, Cael, and Jude Galloway and Evelyn Wimmer. He also leaves behind an extended family he loved dearly, including his in-laws, nieces and nephews, and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
