Obituary of Dale Franklin Orcutt
Dale Franklin Orcutt passed away peacefully on January 31, 2017. He was born on December 3, 1932 to Ernest and Grace (Broadhurst) Orcutt. The family owned a ranch in Rush, CO where Dale started his lifelong career with one cow his parents gave him. Over time, he began to grow his herd.
Dale joined the United States Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War. He served our nation proudly in both Japan and England. During his enlistment, he purchased his ranch in Florissant, CO. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1956 as a Staff Sargent.
Dale met the love of his life, Bonnie Wimmer, when she was working at the café in Divide, Colorado. They married on November 20th, 1959. They built their first home together on the ranch in the mountains. To this union came three sons: Randell, Ronald, and Richard. In 1973 Dale and Bonnie moved their family to Rush, Colorado where they resided until Dale’s passing.
Dale was an avid cowboy and loved being outdoors with his cattle. He also cherished the time he spent taking his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on the tractor and feeding the cows. He loved showing all of them the ranching life.
Dale worked hard to support his family and held many other jobs along with his ranching career. He built houses, was known for his rock fire places, was a heavy equipment operator, and worked for the Forest Service in both Teller and Park counties.
He was a member of the Polled Herford Association, Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, and the Ramah American Legion. He also served as the President of the Double EL Soil Conservation Service for many years.
Dale is survived by his wife Bonnie Orcutt of Rush, CO; Sons: Randell Orcutt of Rush, CO; Ronald (Susan) Orcutt of Pinedale, WY; Richard (Rindy) Orcutt of Falcon, CO; Grandchildren: Cody (Bobbie) Orcutt of Kemmerer, WY; Keenan Orcutt of Colorado Springs, CO; Autumn, Micah, and Brandilyn Orcutt of Falcon, CO and Aidan Orcutt of Rush, CO; Great Grandchildren: Marisa, Macie, and Bryson Orcutt of Kemmerer, WY along with many nieces and nephews.
