Obituary of Donna Faye Clark
Donna Faye (Chase) Clark age 87 of Hugo and formerly of Limon, Colorado passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at The Center at Cordera in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born on June 21, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Roland and Davina (Blair) Chase. Donna had a younger sister, Betty.
Donna briefly lived in Chicago in her early childhood, but the family moved back to Sioux City where her father worked for the railroad. It was here that she met Marvin Edward Clark. They were married after Marvin returned from his time in the Navy on March 27, 1948, and moved to Denver shortly thereafter. Donna was a buyer for JC Penny’s in downtown Denver before they adopted their son, Jeffrey Clark, and four years later gave birth to another son, Bryan Clark.
Donna and Marvin bought the High Plains motel and moved to Limon in 1965. A few years later, they bought the Texaco station on the southeast corner of Main and E Avenue. They operated both businesses for a period of time before selling the motel. Donna and Marvin had a passion for camping and decided they wanted to own and operate a campground, so they sold the Texaco station and began their search for a campground in Colorado. The good Lord provided them the opportunity that same year to buy the KOA campground in Limon, which they ran for the next 11 years. They left Limon briefly from August 1984 to September 1987 when they bought the KOA campground in La Junta, Colorado. But after three years, they missed their friends and moved back to Limon.
Donna cherished the time she spent following the boys’ school activities and traveling with the other parents to the Limon sporting events, taking kids to the state bowling tournaments, and bowling herself in the women’s and doubles leagues and tournaments. Donna was also active in the Episcopal Church.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Clark, mother Davina Chase, father Roland Chase, and sister Betty Carmichael. She is survived by her sons, Jeff and his wife Frieda, and Bryan and his wife Shanna; three grandchildren, Cassie Clark, Allie Clark-Kennedy, and Katie Clark; and one great-grandchild, Maggie Kennedy.
