Obituary of Quentin Kravig

Quentin Henry Kravig, age 86 of La Junta, CO, formerly of Karval, CO passed away on September 29, 2008 in Pueblo.
Quentin was born on January 18, 1922 in Karval Colorado to Henry and Zola Amelia (Dudley) Kravig, one of seven children. He graduated from Karval High School in 1939 and then attended Colorado A&M in Ft. Collins from 1940 to 1943. Quentin then enlisted into the Untied States Marines to serve his county during WWII. As part of his basic training with the army ROTC he joined the Colorado University Football team for one year before being deployed to the pacific theater. Following his return from the war he continued his education at Colorado A&M receiving a bachelorâs degree in Range Management. This degree enabled him to become and biology teacher in Karval in 1948 where he met Helen Walker. They began dating and were married on June 19, 1949 in Limon, Colorado. The couple was blessed with two daughters.
In 1951 Quentin was again called to serve his county during the Korean Conflict as a reserve officer in the Marines. From 1952 to 1960 he taught school at Karval and taught in Alaska from 1960 â 1962. The couple moved back to Karval where Quentin was the superintendent until his retirement in 1985.
Quentin was a member of the Karval and La Junta Lions Clubs and served as the district governor in 1985 and 1986. He was on the Selective Service Board, the Eastern Slope Telephone Board and a director for the Lions Eye Bank.
Quentin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, four sisters VaNita Hassell, Dixie Igou, Marylin Stone, Carol Kravig and one brother Kay Kravig.
He is survived by two daughters; Beverly and her husband Warren Stafford of Hill City, KS and Sue and husband George Bemiss of La Junta, CO. Quentin is also survived by his sister Kor Dova Lockwood of Karval, CO and five grandchildren; Jill and her husband Mike Arensdorf, Layne Stafford, Lance Stafford, Stephanie and husband Rick Giconi and Quentin Bemiss.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008, 2:00 P.M. at the Karval School in Karval, CO. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2008, 3-6 P.M. at the Love Funeral Home in Limon, CO.
