Obituary of Velma Emmerling
Velma Emmerling, 85 of Limon, Colorado passed away October 5, 2008 at the Lincoln Community Nursing Home in Hugo, Colorado.
Velma was born on September 27, 1923 in Sugar City, Colorado to Lucien Hobson and Lillie Mae (Debo) Hobson, one of six children. After graduation, Velma served her country in the war effort stateside. After World War II, she married Hugo âSwedeâ? Emmerling on November 29, 1946. They ranched near Genoa, until 1959 when they moved to Limon, to continue agricultural related businesses. With the help of Dr. Donald Joseph and Barbara Romeo, they adopted a son, Robert Joseph. Velma enjoyed volunteering for several activities within the Catholic Church, from playing the organ at Mass, helping with the Fall Festivals, or assisting with funeral luncheons as she held her work with the church very close to her heart. Velma was also the gears that held the ranch together helping âSwedeâ? with the day to day chores around the farm, managing the financials or providing meals to the various hands that made their business prosper. In particular, helping raise the chickens and selling their eggs in town brought her joy. Velma followed Robert in all of his activities and sports throughout his school. If you couldnât find her at the farm, chances are you could find her at one of Bobâs activities. Family was the most important thing in her life. Following Swedeâs death, she moved to Buena Park, California to be near Bob, Lynda and watch her granddaughter Leigh Ann grow and play softball and volleyball. She eventually moved back to her hometown and friends in Limon. Velma lived courageously by herself, but was assisted by many generous and loving friends. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hugo âSwedeâ? and three brothers Shorty, Elton and Noel.
Velma is survived by her son Robert Emmerling of Denver; granddaughter Leigh Ann and great granddaughter Charlotte Brielle of Anaheim, California :three siblings, Norman (Thelma) Hobson of Hugo, CO, VaNeta (Norman) Hopkins of Ordway, CO, and Viola DeMoss also of Ordway. She has numerous nieces and nephews throughout the land and a very gracious â extendedâ? family.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady Of Victory Catholic Church in Limon, CO
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Rosary Being Said At 7:00 P.M. at Our Lady Of Victory Catholic Church in Limon, CO
